That 'coenocyte' is a term still in regular use is doubtful. Whereas, by contrast, syncytium is a term widely used. Dictionary of Genetics (King et al, p435) discusses syncytium, with no entry for coenocyte. If no or few modern uses of coenocyte can be found, then the page should reflect that. I only have sight of the abstracts, but they are not super-convincing. Macdonald-ross (talk) 18:43, 30 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Coenobium and Coenocyte edit

In my field (algae) the term coenobium refers to a colony of defined cell number (cells can be uni- or multinucleate). This is distinct from coenocyte, a single large, multinucleate cell. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Algae1fan (talk • contribs) 13:53, 9 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
