Coal scrip had a virtual monopoly because in a typical coal town there were no other stores, there were no other places. Wehn other places did arrive, few if any actually would take a token, much less a credit issued by another company. Indeed, this sort of thing was the reason for the truck acts in the United Kingdom, and of course the social problems immortalised in Sixteen Tons Rich Farmbrough, 03:47, 28 August 2012 (UTC).Reply

What appears to be OR and what appears to be non-neutral POV in this article? I think this article could use more references and be greatly expanded, thinking of all the American folk songs about the company store makes me want to research that and expand.
