Not everyone understands SI; this is English wikipedia, which means there are a lot of americans too. Standard thing to do on wikipedia is use SI and Imperial measurements.

Citation needed: The web site http://www.answers.com/topic/cluster-ballooning refers to a 1960 Italian movie which features a cluster balloon used to jam police radio. Can any actual citation of a real event where cluster balloons are used to jam police radio be found? If not this article needs to be altered.

DIY hobbyists? In Sept/1954 Garrett Cashman was in the upstate New York papers (and Life Magazine ) for his 13mi trip to 6,200ft with home-built 60-balloon cluster. No lawnchair, just a foot-square padded plank. He went on to fly his clusters at state fairs and as advertising stunts. He claimed a 19,000ft flight in 1955 (caused him to hallucinate.) Youtube has a Spanish-lang news spot for his unsuccessful launch carrying a huge ad banner. Air&Space Magazine goes over the history. Earlier, Dr. Jean Piccard of the Piccard balloonist family flew a 98-balloon cluster Jul/1937. Wjbeaty (talk) 04:04, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

Fake record?

"On May 28, 2010, Jonathan Trappe crossed the English Channel, landing safely in a cabbage field in France."

Careful! This record may be a fake. A french newspaper (la Voix du Nord) investigated around this event, and showed numerous incoherences. There was no image of Jonathan Trappe flying above the channel nor approaching the coast. The Nationale Gendarmerie waited for Jonathan Trappe along the french coast, but never saw him. Besides Jonathan Trappe said his flight "quiet" whereas there was a strong wind (force 6). And the wind direction should have transported him in Britanny (being very lucky) or in Northern England (since the wind direction changed between take off and landing). When the french gendarmerie asked questions to Jonathan Trappe, his story was inconsistent.

Please check out the documentation on Jonathan's www.clusterbalooning.com website on the flight over the English Channel. With the photos, data, meteorology charts, etc, it is very difficult to consider this a hoax. Pixar promoted the film with cluster balloon events allowing media VIP's to get in a replica of Carl Fredricksen's armchair and fly suspended by balloons up to 50 meters in the air while the armchair was tied by cords in the ground.

• The fantasy short film The Red Balloon, directed by Albert Lamorisse and filmed in Paris, France in 1956, ends with a simulated cluster balloon ride as a young boy, having lost his magical sentient red balloon to a gang of bullies, finds all the other balloons in Paris coming to him.

• In the 1963 film A Ticklish Affair, starring Shirley Jones, a young boy floats in the air using surplus weather balloons over San Diego.

• The Australian movie Danny Deckchair features a character ("Danny") who ties a bunch of helium filled balloons to his deckchair during a party. His friends hold down the chair but inadvertently let go and set Danny on a ride across Australia, which causes him to become a national hero.

• In the video game Pikmin, an enemy uses a cluster of balloons to drop bombs.

• In the Malcolm in the Middle episode "Day Care", Reese, having found religion, attempts to fly to heaven using balloons attached to a lawn chair. He ends up crashing through a church's stained-glass window.

• In the Arrested Development episode "Forget-me-Now," George attempts to use cluster balloons to escape house arrest.

• In the Simpsons episode 'Coming to Homerica', Homer tries to fly in a deckchair with helium balloons attached to it but the balloons will not lift him. Carl and Lenny get on as he gets off, and go into incredibly high altitudes and nearly freeze to death.

• In the game Chrono Trigger in one of the endings it is possible to see the two main characters float away utilizing the technique.
