"Clit mice" edit

Looking for the "proper name" of a pointing stick, which I previously knew only as a clit mouse, I was at first directed to non-wikipedia pages, and then to the talk page of Pointing stick. Turns out the term is not listed in the article due to an unresolved ~14 year dispute over whether it is to be considered a legitimate term, so far (not/)settled by what looks to me like vandalism until the majority of editors opposing the term's deletion got tired and left.

  • Irrespective of its origin, it is and has seemingly for a long time been an attested term. Its censure/erasure due to personal reasons à la "it's stupid and immature" (see aforementioned talk page) goes counter to descriptivist practice; even if it is "stupid and immature", it is still a term people use, and one which may be further used to seek out information about the object/phenomenon it describes.

Wikipedia's purpose is to inform and describe, particularly with disambiguation pages, there to redirect users to what they're looking for if it is unclear. I am however not about to invest my lifespan in a stranger's grudges against descriptivism andor colloquialisms involving genitalia. Thus, I am adding this entry to this disambiguation page instead of the main article, as I believe this to be reasonable and a sound way of ensuring more widely distributed information about "pointing sticks" without risking the issue of edit warring resurfacing. Better to redirect the term here, then to pointing sticks, than to not account for it at all (people not well versed in Internet would plausibly avoid something labelled "Talk:Pointing sticks" as it seems unrelated; we don't want that, we want Wikipedia articles to be as readily available as possible).
