Sources? edit

Could someone provide the source for this classification? thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK 11:09, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Currently, Reference 1 and Reference 2 of this article does not work. Even the websites are not accessible.GDibyendu (talk) 13:34, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
They seem to be working just fine for me. The server may have been down for a few hours. AreJay (talk) 22:09, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have provided the reference for the city classification: http://ccis.nic.in/WriteReadData/CircularPortal/D2/D02ser/11016_2_2008-AIS-II.pdf

I removed Ahmedabad and Pune from the X list, because they are classified as Y as per the 6th Pay Commission. Chetan_crasta

u have added many towns but why didn't kurnool town not added.being first capital city of ap why it did not have any position. even guntur, kakinada, warangal added and i think kurnool is better than those towns.i dont want to degrade those towns but u have to consider towns from rayalaseema also.

6th Pay Commission edit

The new 6th pay commission has abolished city compensatory allowance. The sub-categories has been abolished with only three categories (X, Y and Z) and the new criteria has also being fixed. Kindly update the same. http://india.gov.in/govt/studies/allowances.pdf Amartyabag TALK2ME 17:38, 10 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Classification of Indian cities - Incomplete information edit

There are classifications of cities and towns on many different criteria for various purposes. Even the classification for HRA and CCA was different - While one was based on the population of the core city, the other was based on the population of the Urban Agglomeration(UA). The income tax laws have a different classifications. Banks have another classification. The Indian Census, data from which are used in most classifications have its own classification of Cities and UAs

The page needs to be objective.

Inconsistency edit

On 2020-10-12 the article says "There are nine X cities", but the table only lists 8 "Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune" -- SGBailey (talk) 07:38, 12 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
