Proof of Wii and DS edit

If you can find proof of the Wii and DS as ports, post it, because, they werent in the article or in the trailer. SG-17 00:48, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article doesn't mention that it will be released for the PS3 or the 360. This is pretty funny, the edits and comments ^_^ Good for a giggle JayKeaton 01:31, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
the press release does say "Achievements". Only the 360 has those. JAF1970 02:08, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
@ JayKeaton If you watch the trailer at the end it shows the xbox 360 logo and playstation 3 logo. I would only infer that it means its coming to those platforms. FSU Guy 03:41, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
And they're hand held consoles, as the press release speaks of? Oy. JAF1970 05:03, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Possibily not on Wii then? though it could easily run on the last generation. I'd expect a DS version - wouldn't expect it to be the same though?87.102.4.153 12:23, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Seeing as the xbox and ps3 logos appear in the trailer it's safe to assume it's coming to them. I've removed the other machines for now - until there is confirmation.87.102.4.153 12:35, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I agree The press release states it is comming to "next generation consoles and handhelds". For all we know it could be a cellphone so I agree with holding off on the ds and psp until further conformation, possible as early as e3. FSU Guy 13:24, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
And I disagree. Restored to the original. Take 2 has already announced it for SPECIFIC systems. JAF1970 14:39, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Here's a question for you - even if you only go by the press release - what does handhelds mean? 2 or more. What do you think they'll be - the Nokia N-GAGE and the DS? The PSP and the iPhone? I already know the systems it's being developed for from first hand sources, but I'm not supposed to do research on Wiki. Other publications have spoken to Firaxis. JAF1970 14:49, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

What you are doing is original research see WP:OR and speculation, that's not quite right.87.102.4.153 16:38, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

minor things edit

Publisher is 2K games, so I've changed that, removed references to unconfirmed handhelds etc for now. Made the link to 'civilization (compter game series)' work, removed excess links that just repeat the press release. That's it.87.102.4.153 12:41, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

rts? edit

Not sure that the description 'turn based strategy' actually applies here - given the description in the press release it's possible (speculation) that the game might be/have real time elements - if so the infobox will need changing. Thanks87.102.4.153 12:44, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's a turn-based strategy game. Just streamlined to be quicker. JAF1970 14:39, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Have you got a reference for that?87.102.4.153 14:50, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

why revert? edit

I'm not sure why JAF1970 changed the article back to the way it was previously - effectively reintroducing errors - and re-adding links that do not have any further info on the game beyond the press release? Though it's likely that the DS will get a version there is no confirmation of that yet. Please do not add speculation.87.102.4.153 14:50, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

They're not errors - you might notice the citations. JAF1970 14:52, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
The citations? what DS version is not yet confirmed, and you undid my work , why?87.102.4.153 15:04, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Read above. What "handhelds" will they release for? The Nokia N-GAGE and the GameBoy Color? JAF1970 15:07, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Should satisfy you edit

But I'm going to tell you right now that the systems that are listed are being developed for the system. I'm not allowed to give first-hand research though. JAF1970 15:18, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

But the encyclopedia is not supposed to contain speculation or original research - all the facts should be cited - we can't currently do that.87.102.4.153 15:33, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not by the articles themselves. Reports on what actual news sources are saying is fine, so long as it's clear that it isn't the article making the report and/or speculation, but the news publication. Keep in mind, some of these publications have the same information I do, and are not shy about reporting it. They're not encyclopedias. JAF1970 15:36, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Take 2 is the publisher, not 2K Games edit

Take Two Interactive is the publisher, not 2K Games. 2K Games is a subsidiary of Take 2. JAF1970 15:40, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Did you read the press release - or my message on the talk page - the press release clearly states that 2K is publishing the game - if you want to add 'take two' as being the parent company then do that. Why aren't you reading my messages or the official press releases?87.102.4.153 15:43, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Who issued the press release? Take Two is the worldwide publisher of the game. Please read the 2K Games wiki page. Thank you. JAF1970 15:47, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
You need to re-read the press release - again it clearly states that 2K is the publisher - if Take Two or another subsiduary is publishing in different regions then both should be added.

More problems edit

In 'have been named as targets for the games' references 1 and 2 do not name any target consoles but simply repeat what is said in the press release ie 'next gen consoles and handhelds'87.102.4.153 15:55, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I suggest you read again.

Joystiq: "Filed under: Nintendo DS, Sony PlayStation 3, Sony PSP, Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, Strategy" PC World: Xbox 360, Playstation 3 to Get Civilized JAF1970 15:57, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

That really doesn't make it certain or official. I'm not really getting anywhere trying to explain where you are going wrong so I've asked an admin user:GeeJo to help - hopefully they (or someone else) might be able to explain to you why I have problems with what you are doing.87.102.4.153 16:15, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Um, read the article and what it says: "So far, the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii and Nintendo DS have been named as target systems by publications". No one is calling it official on the page, but these publications are legitimate sources. JAF1970 16:19, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
But what publications? the only publication I'm aware of is the press release and that only says 'next gen consoles and handhelds" - to infer that means all of them is simply speculation.87.102.4.153 16:31, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
A press release is not a publication, nor is it a news source. Just the opposite, in fact - a press release is public relations. JAF1970 16:39, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Petition for Semi-Protection edit

This page has been petitioned for semi-protection. Enough is enough. JAF1970 16:47, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

They will probably say the same thing there, but I should point out, according to page protection policy: "Semi-protection should not be used […] in a content dispute between registered users and anonymous users, with the intention to lock out the anonymous users." I should also point out to all editors the three-revert rule. A few editors are already past the limit, and could be blocked without further notice. I would strongly recommend that users refrain from edit-warring, and work toward a consensus in the talk page, even if the current article version is not to their liking. Dancter 16:56, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've already made some compromises which maintain the maximum information without violating Wikipedia statutes. This person refuses to accept the valid entries and citations. JAF1970 17:05, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
My point is that you re-add speculation, also what do you mean by ""Your problem is you haven't registered with Wikipedia, for starters. JAF1970 "?87.102.4.153 17:10, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Read the article and what it says. It's not speculation on the part of the article. It's not speculation on the news sources, either. For one, what other handheld consoles are there? Why are there Microsoft and Sony logos? I also know for a fact the consoles that the game is planned for, but once again, I'm not permitted to post "original research". The fact is, the compromise was reached, and those sources are noted as such, but apparently, you don't understand the term "compromise". I've petitioned for semi-protection, and it's up to the admins now. JAF1970 17:13, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Partial reverts are still subject to 3RR, so your compromises may not be enough. Administrators have some discretionary room, though. There are alternatives to edit-warring. Wikipedia:Resolving disputes is good place to look. 72.197.0.231 17:16, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable confirmed edit

Citation added. 2K Games has announced Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution, to be available for the DS, PSP, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 next year. The Wii is the only next-gen console to be shunned from the latest multi-platform strategy title. [1] JAF1970 17:19, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

That game will never run on crappy DS. Look at the logos included at the end of the trailer: Playstation 3, Xbox, and PSP. Wii and DS can stick to their target pre-school audience...

1. Sign your name. 2. Age of Empires: The Age of Kings was made for the DS. Similar game. It's been confirmed for the 360, PS3 as well as the PSP and DS. What makes you think the handheld versions will be identical to the next-gen console versions? JAF1970 18:41, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The trailer edit

Is only for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions - neither the DS nor PSP will have that opening trailer. It's been CONFIRMED for the DS and PSP. JAF1970 18:32, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Once we see that trailer - you can add the information that is false at the moment. I've seen articles stating that the game will be available for Wii, which is clearly false as well - just as the fact that it will be available for DS. Sorry guys - in order to own a real console, you have to spend real money...

It was confirmed today as a DS title, as well as PSP. It's also been confirmed there WON'T be a Wii version. JAF1970 18:39, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Who confirmed it? You keep posting the link to the same dumb website over and over - I have yet to see a statement from 2k on it, or any REAL gaming websites stating that DS is included. All we have to go on for now is the trailer, and it clearly shows what everyone should know already - PS3, PSP, Xbox - forget about Wii and DS.

Mark Raby, who contacted T2 and got the details. You're not signing your name. JAF1970 18:49, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
You can't ignore the Wii and DS. They can be considered consoles just as well as any other current system. And how can you ignore something that is selling more than any of the other systems? Let me guess, next you are going to say I'm not allowed to like the Wii or DS because it's 'not targeted for me'? Who said that the Wii was targeted to little kids? I don't think little kids are going to be playing Manhunt 2 or Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Sure there are enough third party games on the DS or Wii to keep the younger crowd happy (that is, until they come crying to their older siblings for help on the game..), but that doesn't make the systems inferior to any of the other systems. LN3000 18:55, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, they're not "ignoring" the DS, but it's not being developed for the Wii. This is not like or love or hate. This is T2's decision. JAF1970 18:56, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Pretty ironic when the game is called Civilization Revolution. LN3000 18:58, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Nintendo shouldn't have changed the name. :p JAF1970 18:59, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Add the link to external links, good, no Wii, it is for the Ps3, 360, PSP, and DS, stop changing it.SG-17 18:46, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

18:50, 29 June 2007 68.236.201.105 (Talk) (2,700 bytes) (Again - I know for a fact it won't be released for DS (it will be made clear during E3 on July 12), but offer this wording as a compromise till then to satisfy the DS fanboys...) Anyone who uses the word "fanboy" should be automatically be banned from Wiki. Seriously. JAF1970 19:00, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I guess that's including yourself, since you just used it as well? Anyway - I will be back here in 2 weeks just to say "I TOLD YOU SO!". Remember games for adults are made for consoles for adults. You can't own PS3 or Xbox if you don't have an income - stick to your Wii's and DS's, and maybe one day you'll be able to afford PS3 to play the new Civilization...

Where are the adults? JAF1970 19:09, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Playing the Wii! Hm.. So adults are not allowed to like the Wii? Then how come there are more parents who are not usually into games who are playing Wii? You are unable to argue that the Wii is not able to be an "adult console". I laugh. And until it's made official, you are not allowed to bring your Original research into the article. Right now, there is too much confusion around this JUST ANNOUNCED game, and so there are plenty of sites saying "it is/it's not/it is" or whatever. No matter how much you think you know for a fact, you have to wait until it is official. And next generation consoles and handhelds doesn't specify certain consoles excluded. And obviously you are immature if you want to pretend that the Wii and DS aren't good enough to be consoles. Pathetic. And what does income have to do with anything? You need income to buy more games, don't you? Xbox is the only console that makes you pay for online games. LN3000 19:13, 29 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is NOT A FORUM. This is for discussion the content of the page, not the merits of various console systems. Take it to a message board. The fact is that the 360, PS3, PSP and DS versions are announced, and the Wii is confirmed as snubbed. This has nothing to do with the Wii's demographics, the Wii's game library, how popular it is, how unpopular it is, who's playing it, etc. It's irrelevent. This is to discuss the Civ Rev article.
