A few questions about CB radio in India

• How long has the CB service been authorised in India? (Chake De India)
• It was hard to tell from the newspaper article if a license is still required, or if it's required for the full power radios but not for 1 mw devices, or for radios with an external antenna vs. radios with a non-removable antenna.
• When you buy a CB radio in India, does it come with all 40 channels or only a subset? I noticed a lot of channels are for R/C devices and various specialized purposes.
• Are the channels numbered? If so, are they numbered in frequency order or in some other order?

• It appears that most CB radio companies (President/Uniden being the major one) as well as various Chinese radio manufacturers are shipping "multi-norm" radios with the India CB band included as one of the "norms" the end-user can select from. The AnyTone Smart (sold in Europe and elsewhere as the Albrecht AE-6110) includes bands for the following: UK - United Kingdom (UK FM 40 channel band with offset), DE - Germany (80 channel band), I2 - Italy (34 channel band), PO - Poland (40 channel band with special offset), CE for "CEPT" (European standardized mid band FM only, 40 channels 26.965-27.405, same channel numbering as the USA FCC frequency plan), EU (European Union standardized mid band, same as CEPT/US allocation, but with AM and FM allowed, and IN - India. The channel/frequency plan programmed in these multi-norm radios does not follow the 33 (or 44...or 40) channel plan listed on Wikipedia with the odd offsets for channels. Instead, they have a 27 channel AM/FM allocation (4w AM, 4w FM) for India that follows Channels 1-27 on the CEPT/EU/USA/FCC or "mid band" allocation. Frequency range for the 27 channel allocation is 26.965-27.275 MHz, which is within the 26.957-27.283 MHz limit provided by Indian law.

Here is the frequency plan for 27 channel band plan. Note that the 27 channel frequency plan leaves the "alpha" channels or "skips" in the same way the standard CB band plan does. It is possible that India uses these frequencies (26.995 MHz, 27.045 MHz, 27.095 MHz, 27.145 MHz and 27.195 MHz) for remote control R/C, telemetry, data links, wireless mice, etc. These 5 channels are not included as part of the 27 channel frequency plan, but they do fall within the 26.957-27.283 MHz band. The channel numbering is exactly the same as it is for the "mid band", CEPT/US FCC/Australian/EU band/mid-band, etc - the standard CB band, even including the odd frequency order for channels 23, 24 and 25. It appears that both AM and FM modulation types are allowed in India (or are at least available in the "India mode" on multi-norm CB radios that are designed to be used in various countries). The question is - is the 33/40/44 channel plan originally listed on Wikipedia the REAL Indian CB channel plan, or is the 27 channel plan that radios are being sold with the REAL Indian CB channel plan? Are both channel plans technically legal?
