Political stance: liberal-conservative

The term "liberal-conservative" might cause some confusion among English speaking, especially US-American readers, since for them "liberal" and "conservative" are like central political opposites. Here, the term was obviously coined by Germans, and in Germany "liberal" can mean anything from left-wing liberal, civil rights oriented, classically liberal, neo-liberal, class-conscious bourgeois, employer friendly, simply being rich, to libertarian and right-wing-libertarian. "Conservative" on the other side can mean anything from reactionist, bourgeois, petty-bourgeois, to political realist or even carefully progressive. "Liberal-conservative" then might mean something like bourgeois political realism that chooses personal freedom over collectivism and/or solidarity, is not too excited about utopian ideas and knows the value of both wealth and power. English authors might even know a term which can describe this more adequately than "liberal-conservative"? Anyone? - --JakobvS (talk) 10:23, 16 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

The magazine, for example, presents itself as liberal-conservative, although it has been repeatedly criticised as racist and right-wing authoritarian and, for example, as correctly documented in the article, has named Putin as man of the year. Aberlin2 (talk) 18:41, 6 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
