in humans gene not expressed? edit

At present the article states "Chymosin is produced by gastric chief cells in infants..." and "The gene is found in humans (on chromosome 1), but it is not expressed." These seem to be contradictory statements to me, is it that the gene is only expressed during infancy, or is something else going on here. In any case the article would benefit from this being made more clear. --Keithonearth (talk) 17:49, 11 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree with you. The article should be more clear. Active chymosin has not clearly found in humans, and babies don't digest milk using chymosin as the article wrongly states. However, there is a human non functional pseudogene related with prochymosine.--Miguelferig (talk) 18:37, 7 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Miguelferig, could you correct the article. The citation for the fact seems to deal with sheep, not human infants. I don't have the background necessary to fix it myself. Thanks! --Glubbdrubb (talk) 11:45, 25 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've changed some sentences and added two new references.--Miguelferig (talk) 17:32, 25 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

There are multiple WP:RSs that state that human infant stomachs do secrete chymosin, but that after infancy human stomachs no longer secrete it; and there are multiple WP:RSs that state that human infant stomachs do not secrete chymosin. I don't know which idea is right, and probably will not pour over a study session today to find out, but if the idea above is actually correct, then this article should acknowledge the widespread idea found in reliable sources of human infant chymosin, and say that it is misguided (if that is in fact what current science believes).
