I think there might be a certain reason in having this as a separate article than the London Positivist Society. Although I admit there's considerable overlap, the American church and other things give it a bit different focus.--T. Anthony (talk) 07:01, 5 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am relatively confused edit

I came to this article fairly randomly and found it somewhat confusing.

We speak of this church in the past tense but we don't explain whatever happened to it.
We seem to say that the American version was brought about because of this version "by the 1870s" but we also say that this church was founded in 1878.
There seems to be a bit of a muddle between this church (as an organization) and another "positivist organization" formed in 1869 " with David Goodman Croly as a leading member". What is the relationship, if any, between that organization and this church?

Additionally there are some apparently missing historical details which would surely be of interest to readers, particularly those in London. Where did they meet? Is there a building of historical interest? One wonders because we have pictures and links to other "Religion of Humanity" buildings in France and Brazil... but we have no explanation of what relationship there is, if any, between those and the English church.

I've had some fun poking around, and found this: Church of Humanity / Bloomsbury Project at UCL. I think that perhaps the Church met here: Google street view. But the history is confusing so this is at the present time too uncertain for me to unravel and include.

It seems that David Hayes, ‘Holborn’s Church of Humanity, Its Roots and Offshoots,’ Camden History Review, vol. 24 (2000) will be the definitive modern source for this article, and I'm looking into getting my hands on it.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 02:27, 7 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
