While this article is complete up until about 1990, it ignores the work Close has done since his accident in 1988. Currently, Close works nearly entirely in printmaking, directing a series of assistants to create larger-than-life prints in modes such as woodblock, reduction block, and etching. Examples can be found here). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krylonultraflat (talkcontribs) 00:50, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

First photo caption: wrong eye?

edit

The caption says the detail at right shows the right eye. Surely it's the left eye? For one thing, the reflection in the subject's spectacle lens is missing from the detail. Cognita 22:41, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

In both photos, it's the eye on the right of the painting, not the human subject's right eye. Sorry, I thought that would be assumed. Can you suggest a clearer way to word that? Postdlf 22:45, 14 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Right now, it says "right eye" in one caption, and "left eye" in the other. 91.192.31.131 11:16, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Personal interviews and voice recordings as valid references

edit

Hi everyone, I've began my own quest to talk to artists, and attend live discussions about art and artists. I was wondering if Wikipedia accepts citations from recorded interviews? If so, how does one present it as a reference? Thanks for your advice -- Marcuslim (talk) 01:31, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Relying on your own recorded interviews or overheard discussions would count as original research and would not be permitted, unless you can get those interviews distributed/published/broadcast through a reliable source. Otherwise, how would we verify its accuracy? Postdlf (talk) 03:32, 15 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's interesting what "qualifies" as a "reliable source" here at Wikipedia. It seems that if the subject is not controversial or all the wags agree on the POV, this often includes even "blogs"! It's a fact. Perhaps if the author published this information on a Web site, someone else could include it. Proxy User (talk) 02:11, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Documenting date of "The Event"

edit

While one would expect that "The Event" would be well documented and citations would be easy, I'm finding that there is some discrepancy about exactly when this occurred. I've seen multiple references that place it in 1988 as well as others that place it in 1989. Was hoping it would be covered in the NY Times, but have come up empty handed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.166.146.186 (talk) 23:19, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nevermind, I found citation for 1988 in a book review of a Close biography called "Close Reading". Dec 7, 1988. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.166.146.186 (talk) 23:23, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

To whom it may concern: why is it: "admitted" watching Colbert on TV & not Proclaimed !... or Said !... or told Colbert that he watched.... One admits to bank robbery, shoplifting or child molestation - sheesh. 198.23.5.73 (talk) 17:20, 25 October 2012 (UTC) what's a tilde? rj.coller.jr.Reply

Close Sample Artwork May Need to be Removed

edit

It may not be a good idea to display even exerpts of Close's art, given the violent reaction Close himself gave to someone who used exerpts of Close's work in his own.

See Wikipedia:Non-free content for our policy. Such a use is underpinned by fair use, which legally does not require the author's consent. And it's a very different matter to reuse an artist's work as part of your own art in the same art marketplace than to reuse an artist's work to write about that artist. postdlf (talk) 17:59, 16 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Allegations

In November 2010, Chuck Close threatened legal action against computer artist Scott Blake for creating a Photoshop filter that built images out of dissected Chuck Close paintings.[1][2] The copyright claim was first reported by online arts magazine Hyperallergic in July 2012.[3] The story was reprinted on the front page of Salon.com, and spread rapidly through the web.[4] Kembrew McLeod, author of several books on sampling and appropriation, said in a Wired Magazine article that Scott Blake’s art should fall under the doctrine of fair use.[5] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8804:1f80:4900:e4d:e9ff:feae:df3f (talk) 19:20, 27 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Marital status

edit

After a discussion on my talk page with the editor requesting removal, I found a clear statement supporting removal of Shields as Close's spouse: On view since January, the ceramic “Subway Portraits” at the 86th St. Q train station include composer Philip Glass, photographer Cindy Sherman and Close’s ex-wife Sienna Shields. Part of the divorce agreement is that I can’t talk about her,” Close, 77, tells the video team. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 00:30, 15 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

That can mean she is removed as spouse in info box and state that now divorced, but we have two reliable sources one stating she was married to Close and one saying he is now divorced and can't talk anymore about it than that. NZFC(talk) 00:34, 15 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
This Seems to be the actual source that the NY Daily News article was copying. There isn't much more there but I think the question is settled. Thanks. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 00:41, 15 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Dead links, #68 and #69. Don't know what to do next...

edit

Hey, I've never done this before. Edited or started a thread on wikipedia...

I found two dead links, #68 and #69 linking to the Christie's auctions both lead to nothing.

I don't know if I should just fully remove them, or just post this comment and let others more well versed here figure it out. I wouldn't have any idea of how to replace the links.

Anyways, I figured this would be the least intrusive option to try first. If any humans actually read this? I'm not even certain. My captcha was agueswum (talk) 00:25, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@My captcha was agueswum: I'm not sure if the links are permanently dead or not (the link says the website is down but they're working on bringing it back up), but I've added archive links to the citations so readers can look at those in the meantime. (I also noticed that the links don't back up the dollar amounts noted in the text, but I'll let someone more familiar with this subject figure that out. I'm honestly not sure why this article is on my watchlist.) Thanks for pointing this problem out. Aoi (青い) (talk) 09:43, 13 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
