The validity of the name Chrysanthemum morifolium is doubtful (Wu Zheng-yi, Peter H. Raven, Deyuan Hong (eds.): Flora of China. Volume 20–21: Asteraceae, Science Press und Missouri Botanical Garden Press, Beijing & St. Louis, 2011). It was a proposal by Thomas Albin Joseph d'Audibert de Ramatuelle without certain status and identity (Journal d'Histoire Naturelle 2 (1792): 240). Hemsley in 1889, repeating only Ramatuelle's nomen nudum, also did not established a valid name Ch. morifolium (Gard. Chron. III, 6: 586).
After the introduction of three garden varieties to France in 1789, Ramatuelle had realized, that they did not belong to Chrysanthemum indicum L. and attributed them to the new species Anthemis grandiflora (Journal d'Histoire Naturelle 2 (1792): 234). This name was transfered to Dendranthema × grandiflora by Siro Kitamura in 1978 (Acta phytotaxonomica et geobotanica 29 (1978), no. 6: 165). When Dendranthema was replaced by Chrysanthemum again in 1999, the species must be called Chrysanthemum × grandiflorum.
The name Chrysanthemum × hortorum cannot be accepted because Wilhelm Miller listed it as a nomen nudum only (in: L.H.Bailey: The Standard Cyclopedia of Horticulture, New York 1927, vol. 1: 758f.).

Verification edit
Can anyone confirm or deny that the images (titled: File:Chrysanthemum morifolium Dendranthema morifolium 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc.) are, in fact, Chrysanthemum morifolium?
I spent hours trying to confirm, and I think they are, but I'm no expert. I know the genus is correct, but not 100% certain they are morifolium. I've looked closely at all the other species, and this is the closest match. Jjaayyt (talk) 17:26, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
Description says it stands upright edit
In the description, it says its stem stands upright, but why in some of the pictures it is staked? Can anyone please verify if this chrysanthemum can really stand upright, or if those pictures are not of chrysanthemum morifolium. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.105.230.8 (talk) 19:10, 15 January 2020 (UTC)
