diff I couldn't find out about this:

"The gates of the park were purchased by Christopher Pickering for £1,000. Christopher Pickering is also remembered as his name is on the reredos in the 'new' St. Nicholas Church. The original church, built on land donated by Christopher Pickering, had to be demolished due to subsidence, and was replaced by the efforts of the parishioners"
