Investing in companies edit

Chris Michel never invested in Offbeat Guides so I deleted this section. --Avantgarde12 (talk) 05:57, 9 February 2010 (UTC)Avantgarde12Reply

Actually incorrect, I was an investor but the company entity didn't continue so I removed it.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmichel67 (talkcontribs)

Autobiography edit

This is Christopher Michel. I'm not an expert at editing citations, etc - I spend much of my time photographing scientists..and updating their profiles on wikipedia. But perhaps there will be of use to an experienced editor: Education: Tiffin - citation needed. I'm not sure degrees are listed anywhere - perhaps someone knows how citing this might even be possible. Writing & Photography: DELS citation needed. https://www.nationalacademies.org/artist-in-residence Latest book with Pico Iyer: Not sure how it would be possible to cite a book that is in work. Leica Camera: Again, not sure they list content that way - but here's a video they made about me at a launch event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVK88y6oL3Y Proceedings Magazine: https://www.usni.org/search?search_api_fulltext=charting+your+course&sort_by=search_api_relevance&sort_order=DESC Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmichel67 (talkcontribs) 15:25, 20 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Noting here a risk that large sections of this article appear to have been created and/or edited in good faith by either the subject or a close acquaintance. I do not believe the 'autobiography' tag is called for as the article currently states a COI. Sadke4 (talk) 17:57, 6 January 2022 (UTC) `Reply

Which autobiography tag do you speak of? I only see the COI tag on the article and "Connected contributor" above on talk. -M.nelson (talk) 18:55, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@M.nelson and Sadke4: User:Cmichel67 appears to have uploaded images on the Commons in a Commons account under the same name, then used this article on Wikipedia to justify his status as a photographer, like Mathew Brady for example. I have no opinion as to whether this is legitimate or not. However, there are numerous photographers on the Commons who upload thousands of images, some with a large number of "Featured pictures" and some, like A.Savin, who are professional photographers in real life but who do not have an article on Wikipedia and therefore cannot claim any status as a "photographer" for Wikidata. Krok6kola (talk) 20:30, 18 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Aside: that can be fixed in Wikidata, where "photographer" is a descriptor, not a claimed status. A.Savin is certainly one, someone just has to make an entry for him. – SJ + 12:55, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

This article was not created or edited in return for payments edit

I have never paid anyone to update this page. Cmichel67 (talk) 04:05, 16 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I removed the tag; this seems like an immune response to people engaging with their own pages. (If there's any evidence for it please note it here.) – SJ + 12:55, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Cleaning up some cites edit

A better source is needed for the history of investing.

Removed: From 2008 to 2022 he managed an early stage investment firm, Nautilus Ventures.[1][2]
@Drmies: I don't see a source that mention notable things done by the investment firm (one curious exception: [1]), but from 2006-2016 or so all other pieces or interviews note his work as a seed investor, and pitchdeckbook shows activity. If it's notable enough for traditional press to mention, it seems worth a mention and not fluff. – SJ + 20:57, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
SJ, why are you telling me this? Is there something I removed that you want restored? All those board memberships, that's all fluff. Drmies (talk) 21:03, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Just the sentence above (the first of the bit you removed). To AW's point, I haven't seen it mentioned with any specifics, but it feels wrong to omit all mention of a primary profession. – SJ + 15:40, 27 September 2023 (UTC) Restoring just that sentence. 21:53, 30 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Pitchdeck is not a RS is it? Agree that board memberships are fluff. Has it been talked about in independent secondary reliable sources? The interviews, even if there are dozens, aren't. AncientWalrus (talk) 23:24, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Photos: There should be some better way to reference the 80,000 flickr photos and over 10,000 on Commons. It's rare to have a bio of someone who's a prolific commons contributor, but we shouldn't avoid mentioning it.

Explorers seems a more interesting ref than the current personal site. Looks like that was removed at some point? Still used as the reference on the Commons gallery.

I merged the 'works' section b/c there was only one book. There are a handful of coffee-table photo books, but I didn't find any secondary refs to them so didn't include them. (Point 95 (2010), Rajasthan (2011), Roof of the World (2010), The Iceberg Graveyard (2013), 90 Degrees South (2014), Kalachakra (2014), Stranger in a Strange Land, Monochromatic) – SJ + 12:55, 19 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Unless RS have picked it up shouldn't that just go on the user page? Wikipedia is not a source for notability. AncientWalrus (talk) 23:27, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
For Commons: commonscat + the category scheme there actually addresses this. [not related to having a userpage; most bio subjects with lots of commons media aren't editors but still have a category of works by them]
For Flickr &c, there are generic mentions in the existing sources about popularity online, but usually without specifics. I don't think there's anything to say that wouldn't be trivial or synth. – SJ + 15:40, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
