Chris Ledoux was a country music singer/songwriter and rodeo champion.....

This page is brutally POV at the moment... It's not a total puff piece, with a bunch of information that does belong here. TastyCakes 22:17, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I totally agree. I started over and rewrote the article. Now it has facts and sources :) Karanacs 20:21, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

LeDoux is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. I put in that information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.211.106.168 (talk) 05:55, 20 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

He died?

edit

What, he's dead - that cannot be. Heros do not die. 171.65.249.130 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:53, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

There should be more of a description of his death and funeral or memorial service. White Arabian mare (Neigh) 19:27, 14 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Use of template infobox musical artist instrument field

edit

FlightTime UtahCountryBoy

Regarding the instument field on the template infobox musical artist:

"General class(es) of instrument(s) played by the artist, e.g. guitar or violin. Include singing, rapping, beatboxing and/or scat singing if relevant. Separate multiple entries by using commas,

or .[1] Instruments listed in the infobox should be limited to only those that the artist is primarily known for using."

To prevent edit warring, let's discuss here on the talk page. It's obvious from the description that multiple items can be included.

Re: these: Vocals, Guitar, Harmonica

Okay, FlightTime you are claiming that UtahCountryBoy is including one or more secondary instruments. You don't say which instruments are secondary nor do you provide any proof that any of those instruments are secondary ones that Chris used. They are not automatically secondary just because his first instrument is his vocals. We have some examples to follow in this regard.

Let's look at some comparative musicians:

Alan Jackson and Clint Black

So, I'd have to say I fall on the side of including these. dawnleelynn(talk) 18:00, 23 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Dawnleelynn: It is, regardless, a secondary instrument, which can be listed, but only after there's a consensus to do so. - FlightTime (open channel) 19:41, 23 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

FlightTime All you have done it repeat yourself again "it is a secondary instrument." There are three items in discussion. Which one is it? All of them? Really, are his vocals secondary? If so, what is his primary instrument then if his vocals are secondary? I'd really like to know that. And many of these artists can sing and play guitar. How do you know that the guitar is secondary? Are all singers who play guitar while singing using their guitar as a secondary instrument? How do you know this about Chris? It is not discussed in his article. Are you privy to some secret knowledge we don't know? Take a look at this link to a full concert of Chris playing, and you will see that he is playing his guitar during the whole songs. [1] I'd say that is primary. An item being in an infobox doesn't automatically require consensus which is how you are making it sounds. Does everything that is written in an article require consensus to be there? Cause that is how you are making it sound. No, it only requires consensus when there is a disagreement on how it is being used. You are the one that is causing consensus to be needed. And right now, it looks like consensus is 2-1 in favor of including the items. dawnleelynn(talk) 20:12, 23 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Dawnleelynn: Sorry, Harmonica. - FlightTime (open channel) 20:22, 23 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

FlightTime Okay, that makes more sense. I don't have information as to whether the harmonica is primary or secondary but I would compromise and say let's leave in vocals and guitar and leave out harmonica. If UtahCountryBoy wants harmonica in, he can include it in the article content. You could have just removed harmonica rather than revert the whole edit, but what's done is done. Let's put back in the two items and leave out the other, agreeable? I am happy to reach consensus in this way, thank you. dawnleelynn(talk) 20:28, 23 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I can only recall one artist (I'm sure there's more) who have a harmonia as a primary instrument Lee Oskar of War. My point being,a harmonica would be secondary to almost any artist. - FlightTime (open channel) 20:33, 23 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

FlightTime That guy from Blues Traveler, Stevie Wonder, off the top of my head, LOL not something I think about often. :)) dawnleelynn(talk) 20:50, 23 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sculptor

edit

So, two websites were added to support listing him as a sculptor: [2] and [3]

The first is an unreliable source (the home page starts with "A very warm welcome to my personal website") and doesn't mention what competition the two awards were even from. "Won awards" from an unreliable source is pretty weak sauce.

The second describes them as "his personal memorabilia", which pretty much goes right out and says it was a hobby.

If they haven't been exhibited as anything other than a lesser part of a larger exhibition about his rodeo and/or singing career, I'm not seeing it.

I'll be OK with whichever direction this goes.

Hi Immigrant laborer I understand your concerns. All of this just to add sculptor back to his intro that another editor removed. There were originally three links, but even another editor removed that as an unreliable source. As for the Alan Cackett link, he is more than qualified if you read his credentials to be reliable as an independent source. However, yes the source for the awards is missing. The second citation mentions that "showcase his personal memorabilia, some never before displayed to the public." It doesn't actually say that the memorabilia that hasn't been displayed is his sculptures, no way to know, I couldn't find. However, to avoid further drama (not yours), I am fine with removing these links as they are not vital to the article and even seem overkill for one word to be in the article. I see no reason why sculptor can't be in his lead without out really. Does need to be a professional one to have it there? Please edit as you feel best; I will abide by your decision. Thanks! Have a good holiday. dawnleelynn(talk) 19:05, 21 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
