Guys I wonder if Chobani controversy can include a lawsuit with Infowars host Alex Jones and a target of a boycott. Proposed Changes: 2013 Recall

Hi folks, I'm writing today on behalf of Chobani, where I'm employed as a Brand Voice. In the interest of avoiding a conflict of interest, we wanted to reach out to the community with our proposed edits to ensure they are agreeable and factually accurate. We are looking to update our page to provide more information on our company and the recent product recall. On September 3, 2013, Chobani pulled some of its Greek yogurt from supermarket shelves after hearing of "swelling or bloating" in cups. The company said it has investigated and found a type of mold commonly found in dairy that may be to blame. Chobani officially announced it had moved to a voluntary recall on September 5, in cooperation with the FDA. On September 9, the FDA reported at least 89 people have reported getting sick after eating the yogurt.

Kurdish nationalism and Ulukaya

Please, Kurdish nationalists, is this man really going to be the source of your national pride? It is really so foolish. There are NO citations to him referencing his Kurdish identity that I can find, and the ones provided never mention the words "Kurd" or "Kurdish" or "Kurdistan" at all. Even worse, it was even claimed that "chobani" comes from the Kurdish (!) word for "shepherd". Do you even know Kurdish? Bi Kurdi em «şivan» dibêjin, «çoban» Tirkî ye. Tirkan ev peyv stand, ji zimanekî Êranî, lê ji Kurdî nayê. Ev mêr hişsivik û seksîst e, çima em ji wî ḧez bikin? Kapîtalîstekî qirêj e, lawo!

Formula change.

I have recommended Chobani yogurt to many friends and told them how to compare it to other so-called "Greek yogurts": 1) Since Greek yogurt is naturally thick, Chobani has no thickeners, like pectin or gums. 2) Since Greek yogurt is naturally thick, it's protein gram content is in the 20s, unlike so-called-Greek-yogurts that have protein contents of about half of Chobani's.

Imagine my surprise when I recently looked at the labels again. Chobani now includes thickeners in their ingredients lists. They now have about half the amount of protein that they used to have. Obviously, they are no longer manufacturing their products in the original Greek way. When did this change occur? Since "Greek yogurt" is not defined in the USA's FDA, and any company can call their products "Greek yogurt", Chobani still calls their altered products "Greek yogurt". I am chagrined.

I don't think Ulukaya is CEO of the company anymore. I think he was replaced by the company/group that bought the majority stake in Chobani. So probably when Ulukaya stopped being CEO. Softlavender (talk) 10:26, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Inconsistent name origin

Under the heading "History" the first sentence says: Ulukaya chose the name Chobani as a variation of the Turkish word çoban, itself derived from Albanian čoban meaning "shepherd".

The problem is that

(1) "čoban" starts with a letter "č" which does not exist in the Albanian language:

A letter "č" exists in the Serbian language (Serbian latin alphabet):

I am not claiming that the origin of the word is Serbian even thou "čoban" means "shepherd" in Serbian. Serbs were long under Ottoman (Turkish) occupation. Edit Requests to update Intro and History sections

Hi. I am Kait, and I work for Chobani. The following edits are straightforward updates to the Intro and History sections.

• Near the end of the Intro section, after the words "...children's snacks, dairy-based coffee creamers," please add "probiotic products and coffee line,".
• In the History section please add the following updates:
  1. After the sentence beginning with "In August 2018, the company launched Chobani Savor," please add the following sentence: "In July 2019, Chobani announced it collaborated with Fair Trade USA to launch the Milk Matters program."
  2. After the sentence beginning with "In November 2019, Chobani introduced plant-based beverages..." please add the following two sentences: "In October 2020, Chobani announced that it will raise its starting minimum wage to at least $15 per hour, which went into effect in the first quarter of 2021." "In December 2020, Chobani announced its new line of immunity supporting probiotic yogurts and drinks."
  3. At the end of the History section please add the following three sentences: "In May 2021, Chobani launched the first Fair Trade certified dairy product in the US, issued by Fair Trade USA." Hi Paradise Chronicle. Thanks for responding quickly to my request. I would like to discuss whether some of the content I asked for is promotional in nature.

In the first bullet point, I am asking to add two additional types of products to a list in order to maintain accuracy about what the company manufactures. I don’t think it is promotional to include all the product categories the company deals in.

Under the first request, in the second bullet point, the source is talking about a collaboration with a group of non-profits to support the dairy industry, which, according to the source, will "overhaul the dairy industry", an event that the source ascertains is an important step for the company.

Request #2 is the announcement of a new product line. If removing the words "immunity supporting" would help I would support that decision.

The third request includes un-embellished accounts of what the reliable sources say, which are reporting on actual events that are indicative of Chobani's corporate culture and should be included in a thorough and inclusive discussion of the company. Hi dear, sorry, but paper cup? Zero sugar? Chobani is known for its Yogurt and its founders story as a Kurdish refugee living the American dream spreading the companies shares among its workers in addition to pay them a rather good salary and this is great. I understand that the edits I am asking for are not the "meat and potatoes" of what Chobani does, but I feel this information is encyclopedic and valuable to the overall description of the business. This information has previously been reported on by notable news outlets and therefore I believe it's important to include on Wikipedia. Concur with Paradise Chronicle and would say that in its current state the article has ample promotional-sounding language (e.g. "first and only 100-calorie Greek yogurt made with only natural ingredients"). I think some restructuring would help: a section on early history (as-is looks great), a section on later history (e.g. expansion, market growth), a section on products, controversies, employees and community involvement. As for the proposed changes, these tend to lean promotional, but perhaps if the existing info in the article was combined into a single products section - without promotional sounding language - then it would be considered. Some of the cited news outlets are more mouthpieces of company press releases. Similarly, more clarification is needed: "Chobani announce the launch of its paper cup" -- from the reference, it sounds like one product now has a cup that is no longer 100% plastic but is now a paper/plastic mix. The proposed changes to the article then seem misleading and unclear to me. I can try re-sectioning the article and then we can go from there? Spencer^T•C 06:09, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Okay, I have done additional cleanup and reformatting. I also made an addition based on your suggestion about regarding probiotic drinks. Please note how I incorporated the change as part of a neutral product description, rather than the promotional-sounding "new line of immunity supporting probiotic yogurts and drinks" that was proposed. Specific for your other changes: 1. What is the Milk Matters program? The cited article's title mentions that it is to "overhaul the dairy industry" but what specifically does that mean? This program has started in 2019, and what has been done in the three years since then to overhaul the industry? I think proposed suggestions seem less promotional if there is specific, neutral information included. 2. Incorporated into the article in relevant sections or as stated above. 3. "Chobani launched Zero Sugar" / "launch of its paper cup" Similarly to #1, what exactly does this mean? In the proposed state, this just seems like a list of advertising, product, and branding campaigns, which would not be appropriate for Wikipedia. Edit Request to Intro, early history, and later history

Hi! This is Stephanie, and I work at Chobani. I am requesting several edits as follows:

1. In the Introduction, at the end of the third sentence, please add the word "oat" in front of "drinks" and the word "and" in front of snacks; then delete the following phrase "and condiments, as well as other products with oats and coconut such as drinks." The edited sentence is more precise and clearer, as well as updated. Chobani does not now make 'condiments'.
2. In the following sentence, please change 50% to 20% and change 2013 to 2021. This is a straightforward update of the numbers, using this source: https://qz.com/2091778/how-chobani-is-fending-off-the-competition-from-big-yogurt/
3. In the Establishment and early years section, please delete the following next-to-the-last sentence: "He launched the strained yogurt business with the help of a handful of the plant's former employees." This is redundant. The sentence above already says this.
4. Please move the following sentence: "In 2021, Chobani became an official sponsor of the US Olympic Team and premiered their first national commercial during the 2021 Summer Olympics opening ceremony." out of the "Donations" section and move it to the Later history section, after the paragraph that starts with "Following the success of its product in Australia..." This event is not connected to 'donations' and makes more sense as part of Chobani's history.

Edit request to Later history, Products and Donations section

I want to thank Spencer for helping out with my last few edit requests, you shared a lot of useful advice. I have a few more requests as follows:

1. Please add the following paragraph to the end of the "Later history and expansion" section: Chobani entered the yogurt market in Canada when it forged a deal with Loblaws to sell three flavors of Chobani Greek Yogurt that have been Fair Trade Certified. In December 2021, Chobani Oat Milk was added to the menu of 4,000 Tim Hortons fast-service restaurants across Canada.
2. In the "Products" section, please take out the phrase "and Greek yogurt made with only natural ingredients." This is unsourced.
3. In the same part of the "Products" section, please change the remaining sentences to read as follows: " a small-size yogurt with flavors including chocolate; and yogurt with toppings. Additional products were introduced, including a yogurt-based condiment, (which was later discontinued),". Please note the words "Later" and "included" are removed.
4. In the "Community involvement" section, please change "Donations" to "Philanthropy", this is more accurate description of the contents of that section.

Stephanie at Chobani Do you have a date for the first sentence in #1 (month and year)? Would provide useful context for when that happened. Additionally, do you have an additional source besides Deli Market News? It seems to be more promotional repostings of company press releases (from the "article": "Chobani is spreading the joy of its delicious, natural, and nutritious products to our neighbors up north as it entered an exclusive agreement with Loblaws."), rather than a neutral, independent news source. For #2 and #3, I removed the whole sentence as it was unsourced. If there is a citation for the yogurt with toppings or other products, happy to re-add. #4 is  Done. Remove Chobani Complete

Hi. A subsection of the Products section called "Chobani Complete" was recently added to the article. I would like this entire subsection removed; to have such a long discussion of one product when the paragraph above mentions several products in much less space seems to give too much emphasis to this one product, throws the article off balance, and does not seem like it adheres to Wikipedia standards. I am calling on Spencer who helped me before create a product section that aligned with wikipedia standards. I hope he can take the time to look at this latest edit and decide what the best course of action is. Perhaps a brief mention of Chobani Complete in the original paragraph would be appropriate. IPO withdrawal sentence

Hello. It seems to me that the sentence about the withdrawal of the IPO is not encyclopedic, and should be removed from the article. The course of action taken is not unusual, and many other company follow in similar action. I believe WP:NOTNEWS supports my position and I hope you agree. Please remove the following from the end of the 'Later history and expansion' section:

In September 2022, Chobani withdrew its plans for an initial public offering of more than $10 billion citing current market conditions. It filed to go public in July 2021.

As for me the ownership is important for a company known for in part being owned by its employees. That they planned an IPO and then retracted seems notable to me as well. Strawberries sprayed with carcinogenic methyl bromide?

This yogurt is touted as "healthy" by blogs and media everywhere, however, it would appear it's anything but! EX: the strawberries are NOT organic (not sure why people assume this) and conventional strawberries are sprayed with a pesticide so toxic, field workers have to wear a special NASA space suit to protect themselves. This dangerous pesticide does not wash off!!! There are only "clean" (organic) strawberries and those contaminated with methylbromide ('dirty').

Please NOTE: when a company rep tells you "Our strawberries are tested for pesticides residues" take it literally and at face value!!! What does this mean? It means tested samples and found the conventional strawberries having at least 20 different pesticides, including toxic levels of methyl bromide. Then they called it a day: their work was done. They found out the toxic levels of synthetic and carcinogenic pesticides & herbicides in their fruit, and then proceeded to use that to fill the bottom of their yogurt containers (and feed them toxic strawberries to you when you purchase them)! I'm always amazed when people assume things according to their folly. Testing is simply testing. It doesn't protect you, it informs the testers of how dangerous the products are but nowhere does it say 'removed from circulation" because it's NOT! All for profit. Dig in!
