A chromosome and its packaged long strand of DNA unraveled. The DNA's base pairs encode genes, which provide functions. A human DNA can have up to 500 million base pairs with thousands of genes.

@Kelvinsong: I'm a big fan of interactive images, so I'm fully on board with the use of {{Chloroplast DNA}} etc in this page. However, it might be useful to use {{annotated image}} or {{annotated image 4}} to make it so that it's possible to standardise the format of interactive/annotated images. For example, using the standard "thumb" frame around images, and the inclusion of an   icon in the caption to indicate that its interactive (e.g. like the {{chromosome}} image on the right. Lead section edit

I think the lead section of this article could be improved. I like the first sentence, but the rest goes into the history of the discoveries of the chloroplast DNA instead of providing an overview of the topics that will be covered later in the article.
