Talk:Chinook Centre

"The arrival of these higher-end stores has solidified Chinook Centre as the dominant shopping venue in Calgary." - Am I reading a marketing panphlet or something? Needs to be edited - POV.

Remove gallery?

edit

I suggest removing the image gallery. We should have all images match up with the relevant text, or simply be moved to Commons. I tried moving around images, but couldn't get things working. Ideally, a pic of the mall would be inside the infobox. The map should be immediately after the infobox (as its a standard item in many articles). The time capsule (if included) should be the history section, for relevance. --Rob 03:30, 26 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Logowebchinook2.jpg

edit

Image:Logowebchinook2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:09, 6 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

References

edit

Many of the claims in this article are in need of sources. For example, the article claims that the mall is Calgary's most visited -- this needs to be backed up with a source (and one should not be too difficult to find). Similarly, the anchor list needs to be sourced -- otherwise, it is just one editor's speculation as to what constitutes the anchors in this mall. I did not slap a tag at the top of the article, because I believe most of the article could be sourced fairly quickly, and I will assist to the extent I can. Walkway to the C-Train?

edit

I had to add a citation request tag to this reference in the Expansion section. Chinook Centre is a good 4-5 blocks from the C-Train station, and is separated by several major roads, a strip mall, a mini-power centre, etc. I can't see a Plus 15 of this length being constructed, and an underground walkway is unlikely given the mall's past experience (i.e. murders) when they used to have such a walkway under Macleod Trail some years back. And a pedway wouldn't make a difference because of Macleod Trail. If nothing else this needs to be explained more fully. I've not heard anything about such a project. 68.146.81.123 (talk) 13:10, 7 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Here is a reference to the expansion http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/story.html?id=04f897ae-0289-438a-b498-ef569c09b7c9&k=97173 This story was printed when first expansion plans were underway, if you search hard enough, you can find a chinook re- development plan showing the bridges the are proposed and the re development of this entire area. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.183.104.113 (talk) 04:25, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I found a copy of the redevelopment plan on city halls webpage: PDF. If you goto page 41 there is a concept for a bridge over Macleod Trail. TheIguana (talk) 16:51, 26 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

From what I remember from the Herald, the City and mall management finally decided that it was cheaper to run a free shuttle bus from the train to the mall. And yes, underground walkways have traditionally been unpopular in Calgary not just because of the criminal problem but also because all winter long the pedestrian underpasses would be full of ankle-deep slush that would freeze into grooves at night. If it didn't thaw and freeze and thaw and freeze and thaw and freeze all winter long it wouldn't be such a problem.
(By the way, I remember back when Chinook and Southgate were separated on the main floor by 61st Avenue, but there was no marked pedestrian walkway - you took your life in your hand crossing the street. Even then, the second floor was discontinuous - you couldn't walk from one end of the mall to the other without going down one escalator and up another. There was one escalator that on the second floor was in the middle of the mall but ended on the main floor in the middle of Sears's hardware department. And the live octopus in the food floor...and the malted milk....excuse me, time for my Geritol.) --NellieBly (talk) 19:30, 30 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Target isn't open yet!

edit

We can't list Target as an anchor store until it actually opens. The opening date hasn't been announced but is assumed to be in the second half of 2013; I have added the appropriate notations. 70.72.211.35 (talk) 00:28, 10 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed move to CF Chinook Centre

edit

Cadillac Fairview recently started branding its malls CF (as in CF Chinook Centre, etc.). As a result, the articles on these malls are moving back and forth. I am going to initiate a discussion at WP:CANTALK so we can develop a comprehensive consensus for this issue, rather than having multiple move discussions. Please do not move the article until there is consensus either way. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:36, 2 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
