The nature of Chinese people in Sri Lanka has changed and so has this article. Articles like this in Wikipedia include all permanent or temporary residents, and this one should be no exception. The Sri Lankan Chinese community has changed over time, and the article needs to reflect that. According to this government document the census counted 7,844 Chinese workers now there are around 110,000 Chinese workers in the country. Whether they are permanent or temporary is irrelevant, the fact is they are Chinese people in Sri Lanka.--Blackknight12 (talk) 07:47, 20 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Blackknight12: No it hasn't. Why should this article include information on foreign Chinese people that have no relationship whatsoever to Sri Lankan Chinese people? They aren't citizens of Sri Lanka so including that information is making it seem like these people are citizens of Sri Lanka. Stop reverting my edits. Your claim that they make up "less than 0.50% of the population" is incorrect because foreign Chinese citizens are not part of the Sri Lankan citizen population, they are foreigners. It's really rude of you to conflate Sri Lankan Chinese people who have been living in Sri Lanka for four centuries and have integrated into Sri Lankan society, with foreigners who are not at all culturally similar to the Sri Lankan Chinese people. Why should this article speak about foreigners? The Sri Lankan Chinese people are one of the historical communities of Sri Lanka and this is what this article talks about. Not to mention, that many Sri Lankan Chinese have ancestors that were Sinhalese. Do Chinese people from the People's Republic of China have some Sinhalese ancestry? No they don't. Do Chinese citizens from the People's Republic of China speak Sinhalese or English? No they don't. Do Chinese people from the People's Republic of China follow Theravada Buddhism? No they don't. So stop conflating those people with Sri Lankan Chinese people. If you have a problem then you go straight to the talk page, you don't revert the original edit then publish your edit and then go to the talk page. That's a standard Wikipedia rule. How about having two separate articles - Sri Lankan Chinese for the long established Chinese community in Sri Lanka and Chinese people in Sri Lanka for all Chinese in Sri Lanka including ex-pat workers?
