Disambig page edit

I agree to make this a disambig page. But then: are all the refs needed? Perhaps only Lagardia et al. (2017)? @SilverTiger12 and Jts1882: please comment. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 09:45, 27 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

I don't see the harm in keeping the references. Laguardia et al (2017) doesn't exactly match the disambiguation selection. It has japonensis as the Northern Chinese leopard distinct from orientalis (Amur leopard). There might be a case for adding a disambiguation entry for the Northern Chinese leopard (P. p. japonensis) with its distribution and current status as part of orientalis.
The Amur leopard article might need amending. Is it the cat in Russia and NE China as the first paragraph says, orientalis in its older defintion, or does it apply to the whole range which covers much more of China. In the latter case it's not one of the rarest cats as that assessment used the narrower definition. These subspecies mergers are a headache when using common name article titles. —  Jts1882 | talk  10:31, 27 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Re Amur leopard: am not aware of 21st century records in other parts of China than the NE. The subsection there on historical range includes areas from where japonensis specimens originated, as far as I can tell. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 11:00, 27 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
