"China" Etymology

This article needs a section about the origins of the word "China." Why did this dress/caste get named "China?" What does clothing and the woman it describes in Puebla Mexico have anything to do with a country across the Pacific Ocean? Thank you.Solar3939 (talk) 03:20, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

If you look up the designer of the dress, her nickname is China Poblana and she was born in 1607, so no one may actually know. She was Asian but not Chinese. Rumors are that she was from India. I think that is best told on the designers page, but perhaps a paragraph of possible word origin should be okay.MagnoliaSouth ^(talk) 22:42, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

"Chinese Pueblan"

China Poblana

A "China Poblana" is a woman of this caste from the state of Puebla. In the Mexican folklore, there is a particular dress, which consists of a peasant blouse, a long skirt (not full like that of Jalisco) with Mexican-themed embroideries in the front. I don't know. I was looking at the picture mentioned above with the link and it appears to me that this fits the designer's ancestry to a tee. Though I will agree that Poblana is possibly the reference for Puebla. As I mentioned above, possible origins of the word would be a great addition to this article.
