Never mind the mini-economy - what does this do to Chinese business?

The articles don't say what the effect of this jam is on manufacturers and other businesses. Does this mean that orders are backlogged, products are unavailable? Will something like this limit China's ability to compete in the world market? Wnt (talk) 04:26, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Bear in mind that China is a very large country both geographically and in population, that Beijing, though the capital, is still only one city, and that this problem is mostly affecting only one route to/from it. Obviously there will be some effect on some internal and international business, and since the problem is still ongoing, we can't yet know what the final impact will be, but I'd be surprised if it were very significant on a national and international scale in the long term. What are the Casualties?

Something like this must have caused loss of life or near loss of life. This distance is almost the distance between Philly and New York. A stretch that long with a typical demographic should be suffering casualties such as through heart attacks, strokes, etc. Not to mention people who are on medication but whose supply has run out. WP:NOTNEWS

This isn't noteworthy, let alone main page worthy. These traffic jams happen all the time, look at the sources -

• [1] "Traffic slowed to a snail's pace in June and July for nearly a month, according to earlier press reports."
• [2] just uses this as an example to discuss the wider road infrastructure problems in China.
• [3] "In fact, the mega blockage – the second in two months on a stretch of road about 130 miles northwest of the capital"

This is just a slow-news day piece that has gone viral. It's not a special event, it is not unprecedented. Nothing here distinguishes it from any other massive Chinese traffic jam. At best, this should be merged with the China National Highway 110 to talk about its lack of capacity. Some may even argue for its deletion. I think it's fascinating, I had no idea such things existed. A week in one jam, incredible. I start shouting after about 20 minutes! I'm glad I caught this while it was on the front page.

I think there's a distinction between a month of very slow traffic and a jam where people report being stuck for five days. I'd honestly thought that Gridlock (Doctor Who) was over the top satire. Wnt (talk) 15:53, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
