Anti Kamakaze weapons edit

 

My uncle, who served in the Australian Navy during World War 2, used to refer to the massively multiple weapons used by the American Navy to combat Kamakaze attacks as Chicago pianos. I do not know how widespread this usage is or was, but it might bear investigation. It's probably more likely to be found in historical sources (newspapers etc) than online, unfortunately, but if sourced it would be a useful factoid to add both here and to Wiktionary, which doesn't currently have an entry at all as far as I can see.

We currently use a photo of an 8-barrel pom-pom at QF 2-pounder naval gun#QF 2-pounder Mark VIII, with the caption 8-barrelled "Chicago piano" on HMS Rodney, viewed from below. I think I have seen a photo of a weapon with even more barrels but have not located it. Andrewa (talk) 18:24, 27 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
