This article appears to still have numerous cleanup tags on it, including 9 citation needed tags, meaning that it falls under the quick fail criteria at this time; I'm glad to see an article this important be nominated, but since the nominator hasn't made any edits to the article yet, this one may be a little premature. Take some time, read over this one, clean up the outstanding issues and double-check the prose.

Other initial problems I'd note is that the article seems rather long per WP:PAGESIZE (74kb readable prose) and should be slimmed down on the whole. On the other hand, I'd suggest expanding the section on the political impact of Chernobyl by at least another paragraph, given its tremendous importance in the final years of the USSR. (One great source for this is Hoffman's The Dead Hand, though I'm sure many others can be found.)
