hIppolite a lapide
editChemnitz was also the name of the writer on the Treaty of Westphalia whose pen-name was Hippolite a Lapide. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.21.5.29 (talk) 15:39, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
University
editThere should be a paragraph about the Chemnitz University of Technology.
- There should be some other paragraphs, too. Transportation, Culture, etc. Since I lived in Chemnitz for more than 20 years, maybe I should do this...
- By the way, unknown contributor, please always log in and sign your discussion contributions by --~~~~, then the discussion becomes more coherent and easier to read. :-) If you don´t want to log in, at least type your name at the end of your contribution, because Mr. 88.106.207.137 is not a good name. *lgh* Greetings, --Thomas Goldammer 23:41, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe it is still possible to do a paragraph about the education in Chemnitz in general including middle schools, high schools, the university etc.? TRBP talk 19:58, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Population Statistic
editThe first paragraph and the infobox have conflicting numbers for the 2005 population. Which is the real one, or were both accurate at different points of the year? A difference of 500 isn't that extreme, but that's beside the point, as I think the page should be consistent. Folkor 19:42, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
Please introduce the Infobox German Location with image. It provides a coherent look among German cities. Lear 21 23:01, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
New Photos
editWell done this really improves the article! (Edmund1989 (talk) 18:25, 10 January 2008 (UTC))
History coverage lacking
edit- History coverage of the Middle Ages, and the role of the monastery and castle, and who held the lands, including any significant events (such as religious changes) during the Thirty years' war needs addressed. It's role in the textile trade needs expanded as well. // FrankB 06:57, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
Airports
editI suggest removing the mentioning of Altenburg, Dresden and Leipzig airports since they are too far away to be directly associated with Chemnitz. Even if there was a regular shuttle service linking Chemnitz with one of these airports, they still would not qualify for being included in an article about the city of Chemnitz. These airports simply do not "serve" Chemnitz. (They serve their respective cities and the states of Saxony and Thuringia.)
Chemnitz-Jahnsdorf (near Stollberg) is a general aviation airfield without customs facilities, without instrument approach capability and with a short runway limited to 5,700 kg maximum takeoff weight. Therefore, I would be reluctant to call it an airport. I am aware of varying criteria in some jurisdictions to distinguish between the various classes of aerodromes. In Germany, however, the distinction is very clear and this should be reflected in this article.
Karl Marx
editAny word on why Chemnitz was named for Karl Marx? I don't see any historical connection with the city. Sca (talk) 19:38, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
- I got this story (without any sources):
- Karl-Marx-Stadt should be the name of the new adjacent residential city around the new steel mill Eisenhüttenkombinat Ost, but the emperor Stalin died in 1953. So it got the name Stalinstadt in honor of him. But what about Karl-Marx-Stadt, what town is the next candidate? It would be Chemnitz, a town with a great history of the industrial revolution and history of the labour movement. There was no more historical connection with him and it was a lone decision of the group around Ulbricht. HTH --W.ewert (talk) 18:13, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
