Omissions edit

Regarding the pdf at

http://www.breslevcarmiel.com/downloads/haye_moharan.pdf

which contains some of the censored omissions, the pdf is not properly encoded but the omissions are included between <pointy brackets>. The string to search for these brackets is:

  • D -- opening bracket >
  • E -- closing bracket <
  • A -- Opening bracket at beginning of paragraph. > — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nissimnanach (talkcontribs) 17:43, 11 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

MOHaRaN, and H"Y edit

Hi, it looks like at Chayey Moharan [an edit by you] renders Moreinu W'Rabeinu Harav Rabbi Nachman as "Our Master and Teacher, Rabbi Nachman" versus my "Our great maestro and rabbi, Rabbi Nachman." Since there's both "...HaRav Rabbi..." doesn't your translation render HaRav superfluous? It would just be "MORaN" then.

Also, I favor leaving Hashem untranslated. I render "Elohim" as "God." This accomplishes benefit in both semantics and textual faith. Semantics, because this accords with the major principle that H' refers to His attribute of Mercy-Goodness and Elohim refers to Strict Justice, so these are used in quite complementary/different uses. Textual faith, because the reader can know "Hashem" was the original and "God" was rendered from "Elohim." Actually this is the scheme in English bibles as well using LORD and God. Well, obviously, the word "Rabbi" is what's superfluous in the Hebrew phrase. Why is it there?
Since this is an English translation, it makes no sense to write "Hashem". No English reader is going to perceive your hidden meanings. Yoninah (talk) 18:01, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Obviously? It appears to me haRav means "the great" and Rabbi is Rabbi and nothing is superfluous. And can we move this to the Chayey Moharan talk page? Thanks Nissimnanach (talk) 12:42, 4 June 2020 (UTC)nissimnanachReply
