This was not my addition, but a quick Google turns up a mention in fiction in "The Stolen Heart" which is described as being upstate New York. There is an historic reference to a Chautauqua River in the midwest during the French/Indian period. Most hits are for the "Chautaqua River School." Doctalk 12:36, 27 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
