Editing Rules:

1) Know how to use Wikipedia.
2) Do NOT make one student more important the anyone else. Even better, dont mention any students, ever.
3) Don't add false information. As we've had alot of problems with this article it will be checked and false information will be deleted.
4) If you are going to make a comment in the discussion section, either login and leave your user name, or leave your name. Or at least a class level.
5) Don't make this a place to start petty highschool drama. Yes i know it is a high school, but some of you are adults, so please act like adults.

Old Discussion

Changed the sports section. I thought we had gotten away from making one thing more important than the rest.

Instead of deleting large portions of entries which students obviously took time to eloquently compose, we should compose some new sort of forum to include criticism, both negative and positive to highlight both the impressions of students, faculty, parents, administrators, and outsiders... This should not be a dumping ground of thought but should reflect some popular opinion. Therefore, I am leaving the deleted criticisms to be reviewed by others. In the spirit of Wikipedia, remember the great power of the project but don't be so fast to delete large portions of data! Furtheremore, all updates should have reference sources; unsubstantiated data should not be tolerated! Criticisms:

  • "The new drug policy is unjust, especially to us students that use recreational drugs. Many of us believe that it is stupid to subject students that have not been caught in violation of any school rule to urine drug testing. The need to scrutinize the urine of teenagers only demonstrates and increases the mistrust that exists between the students and the administration. I remember stories told by Charlotte Catholic alumni of more lenient times, when many students would routinely smoke before and after school without much interference. Circumstances have indeed changed dramatically." Class of 2007 <-- If you are going to leave a post, do it honestly and leave your real name, if is unfair to the entire class of 2007 to be reflected by the thoughts of one person. However, individual thoughts / criticisms are more than welcome.
  • "It is unclear when Charlotte Catholic ceased to be a place of education and became a facility designed to control the lives of its students. What was once a homely campus was moved into a dull and oppressive office building. A building designed to imitate the hollow corporate working environment that the private education system prepares students for. Cameras decorate the hallways, and students of Charlotte Catholic must be cautious that their behavior at all times be appropriate, and their urine free of illicit compounds. Also, the religion department has successfully disillusioned students for decades, and coverted many ardent Catholics to AAA (Apathy, Agnosticism, Atheism)." Scooter Jaxon <-- Although nicknames protect identity, please at least include the grade level, in terms of graduating year, to show what feelings you are reflecting.

Has anyone thought about including a photo/photos of charlotte catholic?

Problems

first. the drug policy is a waste of the school's money, and everyone thinks so, minus the administration of course. i mean, its not "giving the students an extra crutch to say no" as healy said to the paper when this was started, its just giving a reason for those kids to be punished for things which do not concern them as a student at all. those who do drugs will continue to do them, and no matter how many tests you administer, there will always be kids who do that, and spread it to others. you cant stop drugs at the school, and all the tests have done is turn kids from occaisional pot smokers into habitual cocaine addicts and alcaholics. if you really want to help the kids, let them have their own privacy and stop trying to control every aspect of their lives. second. for the person who said that there isnt "cultural diversity" at the school, its quite simple how it breaks down: if a black, asian, or hispanic person WANTS to come to the school, he must PAY for it. everyone who is there pays, and the fact that they are predominately white makes no difference. the school is private, and those who pay to go will go. so if you want your cultural diversity, stop complaining, raise some money, and send your kids to the school. third is gonna come soon, must give some thought on this.

NPOV Tag

This article needs some more work before it can be considered "neutral." Examples: (1) stating that Charlotte Catholic is "the best" Catholic school in the county, (2) describing the theatre facilities as "inadequate," (3) stating that "no information is wanted" about the current TV announcements. The "Arts and Entertainment" section in particular seems designed to portray one student in a favorable light, while being unfavorable toward administration. Spleezleton 06:34, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

  • I edited the thoughts in question. Thanks for bringing them to my attention.

    Deletion

I believe the large portion of data deleted by bastique is unfair to the article. Although their is certainly problems with the article reading as an advertisment, many sections were purely informational. For example, stating the schools beliefs does not constitute an advertisment. Furthermore, what is wrong with listing the previous plays/musicals performed by the students of CCHS?

I agree with you. Deleting it seems a bit much considering most of it was great valid information.

Televised morning announcements have been a part of Charlotte Catholic lore for quite some time. Most notable in recent history was the 2003-2004 Manny-Mac Show with B-to-the-Rendan. The show specialized in short stupid spoof videos of various topics such as "The Crocodile Hunter: The Belkosauras" and "Grand Theft Auto". Also produced was a spoof of Britney Spears' "Toxic". The show was reprimanded for what some thought was "tasteless". The show apologized but lost that gay edge. In 2004-2005 the show was pushed until the end of the day and was given a strict 3 minute time frame. Eventually the pleas from the student body, or a couple of students who actually cared (most students could care less about announcements), won out and the show's format was moved to the beginning of first period. While the show kept to just announcements, the annoying humor remained. Luckily, the show staff eventually became more and more involved with the 2005 production of "Crazy for You" instead of bothering the student body in the mornings. The show for the 2005-2006 is just standard announcements, which is greatly preferred by all current students.

    Athletics

"A major source of pride to the Charlotte Catholic community is its stellar basketball program. Led by coach Bob Moran, the team is a perrenial powerhouse. The 2006-07 squad, led by the likes of Jake "The Terminator" Husain and William Blackiston Wilmer VIII ( known by fans simply as "The Eighth") looks to repeat as Queen City Conference Champions. Catholic Sports are not limited to basketball. The Cross Country, Soccer, and Swimming programs also garner respect throughout the Charlotte area. Charlotte Catholic does boast a marginal football team but it is still working to gain success comparable to the highly touted basketball team." - This is completely made up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Auge (talkcontribs)

I have removed this section and parts of it should not be reinserted unless some verifiability can be shown. This is especially the case since I can find more stories about the football team than the basketball team and the school's own site includes links to many more sports and not even one for basketball. On top of all of that, huge sections of the removed text are not neutral at all (e.g., "...marginal football team but it is still working to gain success comparable to the highly touted basketball team"). This looks like one of the basketball players (replete with nicknames) had some fun with the article more than anything else. ju66l3r 21:43, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
