Birth dates edit

  • Do we really need the birth date four times ? Hektor 05:08, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't know. It's just an article. I hate when everything has to sound so computerized! (User Wotwotaki) 6:49, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

  • What do you mean ? Hektor 11:24, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

"This article documents a person who is currently in space" seems a bit retarded, but the videos on www.charlesinspace.com are pretty good! But it takes a bit of time to load the website. (User Wotwotaki) 6:50, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Not a Cosmonaut edit

He is not a cosmonaut, he is a Spaceflight Participant. 203.45.11.64 02:42, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

He is a Space Tourist. You know, with the tickets costing about 20 million bucks! He's definitely rich! (User: Wotwotaki) 7:02, 15 April 2007

Even though Charles isn't a cosmonaut, he's still going to talk to schools on a live telebridge conection. In fact, he's going to talk to my school! (User: Wotwotaki) 7:01, 15 April 2007

Jewish? edit

Does Simonyi have any Jewish heritage? The Hungarians that move to America very often are Jews or have some Jewish heritage, so it's very likely that he is a Jew or at least partly one. Does anyone have any links or info on that? --Wassermann 05:43, 10 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Does anyone know whether Chales Simonyi's family was from North Hungary, Nyireghaza? Plus, if his family was of jewish descent was his family Guttmann?

His family origins from West Hungary. Nyíregyháza in East Hungary and not in North. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.56.170.253 (talk) 20:19, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm sure he's not. Anyway, he seems to be 0% Jewish by his looks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zoomazooma (talkcontribs) 15:13, 29 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

He was born in Egyházasfalu (http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyh%C3%A1zasfalu), Győr-Moson-Sopron county, in North-West Hungary, as was his father (who was a famous physicist and teacher). His father was born from a peasant family with 10 siblings. His father's distant relative was a prime minister of Hungary for a short time (http://hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simonyi-Semadam_S%C3%A1ndor) and he was working for the government even during WWII so probably wasn't of Jewish origin. Also, elder Simonyi was in the military, not in concentration camps or forced labor (he went to Russia, though, which lasted even longer than German camps). Though I really don't know why people care about such origins... Only thing that matters is that they are honest, good and intelligent, creative people. Hoemaco (talk) 08:27, 30 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

The real answer: he is not. Definitely not. His father was born in Egyházasfalu, he is not. He was born in Budapest. He is catholic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.110.129.66 (talk) 06:41, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

As a member of the family I do propose to cancel this silly polemic. The last entry above is correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ssimonyi (talkcontribs) 20:53, 8 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Atheist? edit

I'm sure I read somewhere that Simonyi is an atheist. Anyone else have any supporting information? 86.17.211.191 09:52, 26 April 2007 (UTC) who cares???Reply

Quotes edit

Can someone tell me whether or not Simonyi said something like, "I can tell a bad program from ten feet across the room" ? I've been trying to track this down and can't seem to put my finger on it. YORD-the-unknown (talk) 23:30, 2 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:CSis.jpg edit

Image:CSis.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:56, 2 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Insufficient reference edit

The article states "... and today it's one technique among many that helps programmers produce better code faster[6]." The reference to this assertion is a document written by Simonyi himself (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa260976(VS.60).aspx) where he describes the rules of hungarian notation. IMHO this is not a sufficient reference, since no data is presented, and the neutrality of a such statement is highly debatable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by HannesP (talkcontribs) 23:40, 23 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Male Prostitute? edit

So in a video conference with some students, Gabe Newell (former Microsoft employee), said Charles Symoni was a male prostitute. Worthy of inclusion? See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOMI0BxB0yA#t=25m30s —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.68.197.183 (talk) 17:17, 30 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

NSF Contributions as part of Philanthropic activities? edit

In the announcement (link) for the 2023 NSF Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellowships, two fellowships are noted as being funded at least in part by Charles Simonyi. This seems distinct from the presently listed philanthropic activities and therefore worth adding, but I don't know any of the details or scope of this contribution, i.e., whether he contributed just to this program at NSF, or just in 2023, etc. Adr.Fraser (talk) 22:35, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
