Trying to make sense of various search results showing Charles King Irwin, C. King Irwin, (Bishop) King Irwin and even Charles Irwin, I wonder whether this work: "king+irwin" sheds light. Between p. 37 and p. 41, I think I may have gleaned that our subject's father (the "present" archdeacon of the same full name) was son of John King Irwin son of Hugh King Irwin, who married an heiress named King and was the son of Robert Irvine. Might we perhaps conclude that Hugh took his wife's father's name and the husbands of heiresses often did? Such that this Robert, John, Charles the archdeacon and Charles the bishop all had the double surname King Irwin? What do we think? DBD 22:50, 4 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
My grand parents worked for an old warrior called Curzon Drury Drury Lowe although they always called him "The General" Drury Drury-Lowe. His wife didn't die until 1930, my mum remembers visiting her as a toddler. PS Family genealogy pages are often good for this kind of thing.
