2007 - 2014 Sources Needed Discussion edit

Most of the information on Allan seems to be culled from Thelemic websites of questionable authority/expertise. It would be nice if authors referenced more solid sources, that didn't go on about how Allan made a man collapse with his magic wand. Jgw 23:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

hello , not all , there are many useful links to Buddhist authors as well. Hostin (talk) 10:43, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bennett was not the first Briton to be ordained as a bhikku, but the second. The Awakening of the West By Stephen Batchelor, p. 40, http://books.google.com/books?id=xzzZKe6J_OkC, also in The Bhikkhu and the Magus. TomSwiss (talk) 01:22, 4 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

It sounds as if he was the first to introduce it to the West, which I think is what is being claimed. See also: various writings by Elizabeth Harris, including Theravada Buddhism and the British Encounter: Religious, Missionary and Colonial Experience in Nineteenth Century Sri Lanka and where she also cites another of her own works, Ananda Metteyya, the First British Emissary of Buddhism, which suggests the same by its title. According to her book, which seems reasonably solid on historical details, introduction of Pali and so on, Gordon Douglas was the first to be ordained, in Colombo in 1899, and who died six years later. Metteyya was ordained in 1901.(ibid, p.95). She also traces quite a lot more, for instance his influence in Asia, but inserting all these references takes time and are easily deleted by people who find them not to their taste or "irrelevant"... It's a reflection on Wiki that such an important man has such a small entry! Parzivalamfortas (talk) 17:56, 23 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

The image from Christmas Humphries (1972) should perhaps be out of copyright contention and is entirely fitting, taken in Rangoon and signed by Bennett.Parzivalamfortas (talk) 18:01, 23 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Archival Request for Talk Page April 2021 edit

Would it be possible for someone who knows how to please archive these talk page items.

They are all resolved issues, and I have looked at Help:Archiving a talk page, Wikipedia:Merging and moving pages & Help:Archiving a talk page but can't make sense of it. All the work on this article that I shall do is almost complete, so would be good to clean/clear this page also. Peace & Thanks NirodhaDhamma (talk) 07:16, 15 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi NirodhaDhamma thanks for your edits on this article they are very good. The article has really been improved and is now a high-quality article. I have archived old content on this talk-page. Per policy we should archive content older than 90 days. The above section can be archived in a few months. I understand the problem was solved. Psychologist Guy (talk) 19:14, 15 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the archive Psychologist Guy. Most welcome, glad to do my best with this article. I hope to have some time in about 3 weeks to finish the wiki links and any required minor changes. One user suggested thinking about submitting for GA, also to help prevent from vandalism, do you think it a good idea? Peace & Thanks NirodhaDhamma (talk) 07:42, 19 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

I aim to finish the article in the next month and half NirodhaDhamma (talk) 13:03, 8 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
