The DNB article says he was appointed under 16 & 17 Vict c 97, but that Act relates to the treatment of lunatics, so I think it is a typo in the source. The Act which opened appointments in the Civil Service of India to public competition through examinations seems to have been 16 & 17 Vict c 95. James500 (talk) 09:20, 18 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
