• Character Colors

The name colors on the characters denotes the princedom of the character's birth. It could be changed to denote the character's primary loyalty (discussed on the template's page first), though births are probably easier as certain characters rule multiple place, etc. Anarkeya 16:44, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

That's a good point. Look at Riyan who has 3 different holdings in 2 different princedoms. Seems a little odd with Ostvel, though. I never think of Gilad's blushing pink when I think of him. LOL!  ;-) Would you mind providing a link to the template's page? I'm having trouble finding it. (BTW: You've done a lot of excellent work!) --KC 17:13, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

• • I know what you mean about Ostvel's color... I just couldn't decided what to put because he's he;d titles in The Desert, Princemarch, and Meadowlord. I guess there are 4 choices: base the color on (1) the princedom of birth (Gilad for Ostvel), (2) the princedom most closely associated with the character's 'start state' at the beginning of the books (perhaps Goddess Keep for Ostvel), (3) the princedom of primary loyalty (The Desert for Ostvel), or (4) the princedom most closely associated with the character's 'end state' at the end of the books (Meadowlord for Ostvel).

The princedom of birth works really nicely to show the inter-marriages between ruling families (Laric of Dorval's marriage to Lisiel of Snowcoves in Firon, for example). I'm still not sure what would work best for Ostvel. However, the main thing is that there is a convention.  :) --KC 18:06, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

OK, now Chiana looks strange. It seems like her color should be purple, because she was born into the royal house of Princemarch, even though she is illegitimate. What do you think about using the color to identify the princedom with with a character is associated at birth if that character is born into a royal or noble house, including illegitimate children. Then, some other neutral color could be used for those characters who are born as commoners.

If there are any questions, then we would use Melanie's books as a guide. For example, Melanie lists Riyan as 'Riyan of Skybowl', so I would show his color as blue, even though technically he was born a commoner. Ianthe's sons would be shown in purple to show that they are part of the royal house of Princemarch, even though they are illegitimate. Pol and his children would be listed using the color purple, because they are listed in the index as Pol, Jihan, and Rislyn 'of Princemarch'. Laric's son, Larien, would be shown with the color black to indicate that he is a member of the royal house of Firon, even though he was born at Dragon's Rest (Larien doesn't really need a box, because he is too minor a character, but I'm just using him as an example). Chay and his children would be shown in blue, because even though Radzyn's colors are red and white, Radzyn is part of the Desert princedom. --KC 15:43, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Unsourced plot

Almost five years after the deletion discussion this list still does not cite a single source and is written entirely from a in-universe perspective, in violation of WP:PLOT. I can't even tell in which books those characters appear (and it has been far too long since I read some of these books). I may do some shortening and add some real-world context and reviews, but attention by people more familiar with this series would help. Huon (talk) 22:36, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
