I looked all over the Internet and I still can't find the size of the prehistoric whale. Was it the size of Megalodon? or was it a little bigger? If somebody out there can help find the size of the whale, that will be great. Johnny542 08:04, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cetotherium nominal species edit

Regarding the following nominal species of Cetotherium:

1. Cetotherium capellinii is the type species of Cetotheriophanes Brandt, 1873 (Demere et. al. 2005).

2. The generic and familial placement of Cetotherium furlongi is questionable because the skull of the holotype has gone missing (Kimura and Hasegawa 2010).

3. Cetotherium maicopicum has been referred to the Caucasian genus Kurdalagonus (Tarasenko and Lopatin 2012).

4. Cetotherium parvum Trouessart, 1898 is an unnecessary replacement name for Balaenoptera pusillum Cope, 1868 (Troussart 1898 noted that the placement of B. pusillus in Cetotherium made Cope's name a secondary homonym of Cetotherium pusillum Nordman, 1860 from Moldova; however, there is no evidence that Balaenoptera pusillus belongs to Cetotherium and thus Cope's taxon is a nomen dubium as per Barnes and McLeod 1984, even though Balaenoptera pusillus is nomenclaturally valid]). Cetotherium polyphorum (Cope, 1869) is a new combination by Trouessart (1898) for Eschrichtius polyporum Cope, 1869, likewise relegated to nomen dubium status by Barnes and McLeod (1984)
