ok time to start the disscusion page, we need info on the 414A which is a 414 with more fuel capacity and no tip tanks, and a picture of the 414 and 414A

April 7, 2015 crash

Several users attempted to add an entry to Cessna 414#Accidents and incidents for the widely reported crash involving N789UP, but it failed the standard for inclusion apparently because none of the seven fatalities had their own Wikipedia biography page. However, Torrey Ward has one now. If his article withstands any deletion challenge, then it seems this crash would meet the standard for inclusion. With all respect to Torrey Ward it looks like the most notable thing in his career is the air crash so I am not sure it raises the threshold here. But not being American I have no knowledge on basketball so perhaps we should get somebody to look at that article who is. MilborneOne (talk) 08:31, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

I tend to agree that if he hadn't been killed in the crash he wouldn't have had a biographical article written, which WP:AIRCRASH addresses. We often see articles written on previously non-notable people on the strength of media coverage after their death in a plane crash. In his bio most of the articles cited as refs were written after his death, the rest are mostly "directory" type listings. Patrick Swayze

I removed the incident involving Patrick Swayze as it just sounds like "bad day at the office" stuff that could happen to anybody, not happy it involves an unfounded allegation about Swayze, appreciate he is no longer with us but this is really just tabloid trivia. I tried to add an entry on this which somebody removed. I had removed the allegations from the original report that were unfounded. However, as a former Ce414A pilot, this is not "a bad day at the office." The precautionary landing and damage to the aircraft from an off-airport landing are rare enough to be included. The carbon monoxide poisoning, compounded by the pilot's smoking habit, is unique enough to make the crash worthy of inclusion. If you look at Prescott on a map, there are some airports he could have used, indicating incapacitation of some sort. From an aviation standpoint, this sort of crash is not trivia -- landing off-airport is a desparate maneuver. Safety

The accidents that have been removed are removed exactly because they are non-notable. We have a consensus standard for which accidents to include at WP:AIRCRASH. For light aircraft that means someone famous with a bio here on Wikipedia is killed or the accident results in lasting effects, like airworthiness directives or changes to the design, ATC or other procedures. The 414 is probably no better or worse than other light aircraft for accidents, since most are caused by the crew, not any design flaws. Any light aircraft that has been produced in any reasonable numbers has hundreds of accidents over the years. For instance the Cessna 172 has had over 44,000 produced and there have probably been more than 5,000 accidents. The C-414 had 1040 built, so probably a few hundred accidents. We don't list them all because they would dwarf the rest of the article and because there is little to learn from most of them. Of note: articles on automobile types on Wikipedia don't list any accidents at all, see for instance Ford Mustang. In the case of that car type, with over 10 million built I suspect the number of accidents would run into the millions. We also don't list accidents for boats, trains, bicycles or other vehicles at all. These accidents are tragic for those involved, but just are not notable in an encyclopedia. - Ahunt (talk) 21:00, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
