1976 – described by Mikhail A. Fedonkin, as problematic organism related with Vendia, Praecambridium and Vendomia possible related with primitive arthropods, although the extent of the similarity is yet to be investigated.
1981 – Onega related with Vendia, Praecambridium, Vendomia and others, possible related with primitive arthropods, although the extent of the similarity is yet to be investigated.
1985 – Mikhail A. Fedonkin created of the Philum Proarticulata: Onega, Dickinsonia, Palaeoplatoda, Vendia, Vendomia, Praecambridium and Pseudovendia. It is composition of Proarticulata in 1985.
1985, 1987, 1990 - Onega related with Proarticulata and possible Onega related with arthropods larva, although the extent of the similarity is yet to be investigated.
1992 - possible Onega related with Cambrian arthropods.
2000, 2003 – Reconstruction of Onega as bilateral animals whit rigid dorsal carpace.
With medium of '90s of the last century Andrey Ivantsov continues M. Fedonkin studies. He develops and substantiates idea of the Philum Proarticulata. Book about Proarticulata in process create.
2001 - A. Ivantsov has revised of arthropod-like Vendian organisms. Genera Onega, included in Class Vendiamorpha of Phylum Proarticulata (Fedonkin 1985), with articulated central zone encircled by an undivided zone, is not similar to others Vendiamorpha and probably does not belong to Proarticulata.
2007 – new materials (>100 imprints of Onega), A. Ivantsov definitively interpreted Onega stepanovi as member of the Proarticulata.
Today arthropod’s idea of Onega is dead.

Only Fedonkin and Ivandsov studied Onega stepanovi.
