The citations are in a mess edit

The rot started years ago when this article was created by a very inexperienced editor: me. I conflated my sources — illegitimately — putting them at the end. Since then, it's gotten worser and worser. There is no consistent citation style. Sometimes, propositions are attributed to sources that actually contradict them. And now, though the sin is light, even the deprecated ref name=":0" has crept in. So I guess that I'd better put a towel round my head and sort it all out.

This article is a good example of how the <ref> </ref> mode of citation — though easiest for beginners and most used in Wikipedia — makes article maintenance more difficult than it needs to be. Go into Edit mode and you're confronted by a mass of markup language that's not easy to read and obscures the problems that need to be tackled.

I would like, if other editors don't object, to adopt the {{sfn}} or shortened footnote style of citation. I've found this style makes the task of maintenance very much easier.Ttocserp 14:13, 18 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
