editI deleted the stub tag, since I don't consider this article (that I originally started, using text I wrote for my PhD thesis that dealt with this virus) to be a stub. It is 14 sentences, not between 3 and 10, and a concise summary of what is know of this virus. Of course expansion is still welcome, so go ahead. Aletta 19:04, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

The 35S promoter is a very strong constitutive promoter responsible for the transcription of the whole genome of a Cauliflower mosaic virus (CaMV) infecting turnips. It causes high levels of gene expression in dicot plants. However, it is less effective in monocots, especially in cereals. The differences in behavior are probably due to differences in quality and/or quantity of regulatory factors. The promoter was named CaMV 35S promoter ("35S promoter") because the coefficient of sedimentation of the viral transcript, whose expression is naturally driven by this promoter is 35S. It is one of the most widely used, general-purpose constitutive promoters. It discovered at the beginning of the 1980s, by Chua and collaborators at the Rockefeller University.

Replication
editI have tidied up the Replication section to make it more readable. However I'm not entirely sure about the context of the Bacterial DHFR insertion into the genome- I understand it's a good example of inserting a different protein into the CaMV genome but the way it's currently written is a little clunky.
