Discussing conflict of interest

edit

As was assessed in the tag above, I did not hide my connection with the subject. I could have created an aliased account without disclosing it and created the same article. But I wanted to be honest and play with open cards, as I did on fr.WP and de.WP. This said, I endeavour to be as neutral, well-documented, and referenced as I can. I'm open to discussing this aspect and welcome any improvements and/or constructive criticisms.

@Micsterm: it is good that you disclosed your family connection on your user page. However you should have also disclosed it here on the article talk page when you created the article. It is not expressly forbidden to write articles about people you're close to, but the WP:COI makes it clear that doing so is strongly discouraged. @Curb Safe Charmer: I am surprised these guidelines are so strictly interpreted in the English Wikipedia. I may be a newbee on the English project but I am not on the French and German ones, as well as on other wikis outside the Wikimedia constellation. There, nobody challenged my right to publish under similar conditions, provided I did not express myself in a "non-encyclopedic" way. I absolutely understand that meanwhile there may have been editors abusing, so that checking had to be enforced. Perhaps even I would encounter some objections if I was creating these French and German articles today, I don't know. Nevertheless, this episode is straining to some extent my self-esteem after I did --as advised in the help pages-- some "bold editing". (Sorry if I don't use fully idiomatic expressions, English not being my mother tongue but only my "third language".) For the reasons above, I was a little perplex when you advised me to disclose my COI on this talk page, but thankfully you did it for me. This said, I suggest we keep waiting for others' opinions while I make further efforts to improve this article, before making any decisions. Michel Stermann (talk) 07:50, 29 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Discussing lack of sources

edit

I have added some authoritative references to the roles Catherine Stermann played. Additionnally, I wonder whether the BLP tag is appropriate since this is not the biography of a living person. Is this an accepted use of it, even for individuals who died several decades ago? I'd like your opinions. I won't remove the tags myself but would be happy if someone did so as a result of this discussion. Thanks!
Michel Stermann (talk) 13:35, 28 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Micsterm: I have replaced the tag with a more appropriate one. Please add references to the sections about her early life and career. If there are no published sources that can be used to verify the information and you are instead relying on your own personal knowledge of her life then please brush up on your knowledge of Wikipedia's verifiability policy which clearly states even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it. Discussing notability

edit

I see several French actors who have played in one of the same plays as Catherine Stermann, apparently not in more notable plays/films and/or roles, who do not have more references from reliable sources (apart --I admit-- from the automated authority control that failed here), and whose notability does not seem to be questioned. For example, Marcelle Arnold, or Gilberte Géniat, who have even less biographical information and no portraits. I do not mean the notability of those two should be discussed, but on the contrary Catherine Stermann be admitted as well as them. What do you think?
Michel Stermann (talk) 13:35, 28 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Micsterm: biographies of actors either need to meet the requirements of WP:BASIC or WP:NACTOR. When considering notability we generally try to consider each article on its own merits rather than compare to other articles to look for a precedent. See WP:WHATABOUTX. Finding Additional Sources

edit

As per my discussion with User:Micsterm on their talk page User_talk:Micsterm per notability. When searching for additional sources to improve this article Catherine Stermann may also appear as: Claude Stermann, Ophélie Stermann, or Catherine Melo.
