Elvira should have an entry as she is a character portrayed by Cassandra Peterson who appeared in multi-media formats. I corrected a few things about the ThrillerVideo releases and just looked at the "talk" page. I'd never thought of this until I saw this entry, but just noted that if there are separate pages for "Paul Reubens" and "Pee-Wee Herman," then there should be separate pages here. "Cassandra Peterson" has also been involved in movies where she is not in her "Elvira" persona/character. The Working Girls, for example. Though she is best known as Elvira and that is what she is most recognized for, the same can be said of Reubens (who most know as "Pee-Wee Herman" rather than "Paul Reubens") Bflocket (talk)bflocket

Vampira Suit?

Maila Nurmi article says she successfully sued Elvira for stealing her Vampira character. This article says she didn't win the suit. I know the Tim Burton movie Ed Wood says she did win. Can anyone find a definative source?--The_stuart 15:02, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

"Ogle"?

Somehow I don't think the word ogle has much encyclopedic value.

if you got a better word, then change it. that's the whole POINT of this enterprise. it's the whole point of wikipedia. by the way, the reason you don't think ogle has much encyclopedic value is because you're a stuffy pseudo-snob who wants to obey the rules of diction set forth by Brittanica snobs from 100+ years ago. it's absolutely stupid to say the word doesn't have "encyclopedic value"; if you have some grounds to raise issue with that word, you can do that, raise the issue, and i'll have nothing but respect for you. for example, maybe you think the word is misleading and some other word, which connotes some subtle difference, would be more suitable; or maybe you think the part about the teens and her breasts shouldn't be mentioned at all. HOWEVER, i find it informative, and quite definitive. she's a show-business vixen. and the wiki is 100% encyclopedic. by the way, gentlemen, you shouldn't be presuming that the wiki doesn't have "encyclopedic" value just because you PERSONALLY don't care about it and don't find the information valuable. the wiki for Elvira is a perfectly informative and sincere approach to an encyclopedic entry, though like any other there's always room for improvement. by your argumention, it shouldn't be mentioned or even implied that clara bow was ogled in her time or was a sex symbol. What's interesting about Ms. Peterson is that she's actually a rather petite-chested, naturad redhead. If you passed her on a street you'd never recognize her....which is probably good for her sanity. She must be one of the few Hollywood starts who can actually go out in public and NOT get mobbed while hitting the grocery store!

Retiring?

There's a difference between "retiring from a role" and "retiring a character". It appears from the announcement that she is chosing a successor that Ms. Peterson is planning on the former, not the latter which is what is said earlier in the article. Does anyone remember an NBC special "Attack of the Killer B-Movies" with Elvira and the kids from "Saved by the Bell"? I think it was written by Frank Conniff from MST3K after he left that show?

Nude Pictures

High Society published nude pictures Cassandra Peterson posed for in 1974, but I haven't been able to find the publication date. They're easy to find online simply by entering Cassandra Peterson nude into just about any search site. Someone recently posted under the "Early Career" portion of her Wikipedia post "During the 1970s, test shots of Peterson for Playboy were stolen and appeared in several men's magazine's without her permission." This is completely untrue. She modeled nude on several occasions. The contract clearly states "No representations are made as to what publications, if any, these photographs are going to appear in." I'm no expert, but the contract looks very legitimate to me.

She became Elvira in 1981 at the age of 30. She celebrated her 50th birthday in 2001. Burned or Not?

I read an article many years ago that quoted Cassandra Peterson as saying that she was burned severely "when younger". She claimed that the burn scars were covered by her skimpy outfit, but barely. Any truth to any of this?

Cassandra has stated multiple times that she was scalded by a big boiling pot of water filled with eggs on Easter. The result was second and third degree burns over a majority of her body. Her hair was burned off, her eyes were fused shut and she was not expected to survive. TangibleDreams 17:57, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

I don't buy that. Hair "burned off" by hot water? "Third degree" burns result in the loss of the epidermis and scarring.Second and third degree burns over "a majority of her body" would not likely leave her in a condition to later work as a Vegas show girl (assuming she was a child at the time-how else couls a pot of water cover that much of her body otherwise.). There's something called "airbrushing" that publications use to alter photos. The adult magazines are particularly adept in its use to remove blemishes, moles, unwanted tattoos, etc. CFLeon (talk) 17:32, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

She did receive burns at an early age. The scars can be seen clearly in a handful of photos from convention appearances. Usually, photographs from lower angles, looking upward, reveal the scarring on her neck and shoulders. Scars on her shoulders are very noticable in several candid interviews on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZaHdigy2L8. Scarring is also clearly visible in footage from the movie First Period. Cassandra appears as a homemaker/mother, not donning the Elvira attire. Scarring is clearly visible on the left side of her neck and left jaw. I must admit, Cassandra has a history of telling fibs, usually pointless, silly lies she couldn't possibly benefit from. Does Elvira have a surname?

I was wondering if Elvira was ever given a surname in any media. Cassandra as groupie

Cassandra Peterson went on record in the book "Let's Spend the Night Together" and the accompanying video documentary of the same name. The video was pulled from YouTube sometime in 2018. Personally, I believe her accounts of being a groupie in the late 1960's and early 70's are pure fiction at best. To site a few examples:

She has stated in several interviews and in the book "Let's Spend the Night Together" she had a brief relationship with Elvis Presley. Depending on the interview, her account of her involvement with Elvis ranges from an intense affair all the way to a brief encounter resulting in nothing more then Elvis offering her career advice. During an interview on the podcast Nerdist https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlMQudNognA&t=608s, she describes an awkward encounter with Elvis' daughter Lisa Marie Presley. Upon being asked if Cassandra informed Lisa Marie about her involvement with Elvis, Cassandra says "I could have been her mom." During he interview on Lunatic Fringe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zn66EgGYieo, Cassandra says of her encounter with Elvis, "You couldn't even call it a date."

In every instance, she says the encounter happened in Las Vegas when she was still 17 years of age. Considering Peterson was born September 17, 1951, if her encounter happened while she was 17 years old, she would have had to have met Elvis prior to September 17, 1969. In all interviews where Peterson mentions Elvis, she says the evening consisted of Elvis showing off the belt given to him by President Nixon. If you look into the historical account of Elvis meeting Nixon, that event did not occur until the date of December 21, 1970. Peterson's involvement with Elvis, whatever it was, would have been a full year and a half before Elvis met Nixon. In addition, Nixon did not give Elvis a belt, he gave him a DEA badge (which Elvis collected, and was the motivation behind the visit with Nixon).

Peterson also claims to have had a groupie encounter with Jimmi Hendrix at the Denver Pop Festival in 1969. She claims to have been hit in the head by a tear gas canister during the riots at the festival. She went backstage to receive medical attention. While leaving the backstage area to return to her seat, a man invited her to go into Jimmi Hendrix's trailer. According to Peterson, what followed was a 15-minute pot smoking and makeout session. She then returned to her seat, armed with Jimmi Hendrix's hotel room phone number. In some interviews she claims she tried to call him after the show, only to find out he was already in the company of other women, and in some interviews she says she was too nervous to call him. Regardless, the entire story is nullified by a historical inconsistency. The Denver Pop Festival was held June 27, 28, and 29, 1969. Crowds tore down the gates on day 1 of the festival. As a result, riot control was in place the second day, June 28. When protestors charged the gates on day 2, police opened fire on the crowd with tear gas canisters. For day 3, the City of Denver demanded the promoters of the festival let everyone in for free, bringing an end to the protests (people were protesting the $6 ticket price). No tear gas was fired on the crowd on day 3 of the event, Sunday, June 29. It was on day 3, June 29, that Jimmi Hendrix performed.

Cassandra Peterson has made countless mentions of a sexual encounter with Tom Jones. In each case, she makes mention of specifics regarding Jones' genitalia, specifically its size. In an interview with Howard Stern, Mary Wilson, a former member of The Supremes, who had a two-year affair with Jones, openly called Cassandra Peterson a liar regarding her estimates of Tom Jones' manhood. Mamie Van Doren, who also had an affair with Jones, in her autobiography "Playing the Field," calls Cassandra Peterson a liar for the same reason.

On many occasions, including the book and video "Let's Spend the Night Together," Cassandra claims to have been sexually assaulted by Jimmy Page. She has since dropped this accusation. In the podcast "Stories of Strange Women" http://storiesofstrangewomen.com/2018/03/13/cassandra-peterson/ Cassandra says she can't discuss the matter, or name the assailant, due to legal matters.

This is just a guess, but I believe most of her "groupie" claims are nothing more than an attempt to create a sensation and get her name back in the press. She goes out of her way to bring up the topic of Elvis, even going so far as to coaching her interviewer to ask her questions on the topic. Most of her groupie accounts surfaced around 2005. This would have been two years after her divorce, at a time when she was dealing with financial challenges. Her career had peaked some 17 years earlier in 1988 with the release of her movie. I can't help but think she was desperate to grab a few headlines and keep her name in the mainstream media, and given the rapid rate at which her popularity was fading, this may have been her best bet. 184.166.27.179 (talk) 04:54, 4 August 2020 (UTC) Waylon Jordan

Large chunk of life missing.

Someone ought to do a bit of connecting the dots. Cassandra Peterson and her husband Mark Pierson could not get any studio or production company to fund their sequel, ELVIRA'S HAUNTED HILLS, despite the extraordinary success of the first movie, so basically they put their entire lives into it, every dime they had. It stiffed, because of several reasons, such as the one mentioned in the article (lack of publicity or proper exploitation), but also, the character's diminishing popularity. She made the professional decision to ease away from it. The financial loss of their entire savings and holdings put such a strain on their marriage, they divorced. Only at that point did Peterson jump back into the Elvira schtick head-first, basically, to pay the bills. She was quite open and honest about this in an LA WEEKLY feature story about 6 years ago. Drag Race?

I have never seen or heard evidence she was married to Bill Cable. In several interviews she mentions they were a couple for a period of about a year circa 1973-74. I'm not sure, but based on Peterson's interview on The Nerdist podcast, it seems it was Cable who brought Peterson from Florida to Los Angeles. They remained friends after the breakup. I can think of at least three occasions where the two of them appeared together on screen after Peterson's rise to fame: 1) an episode of Movie Macabre, 2) they both appeared in Pee Wee's Big Adventure, and 3) Cable played a motorcycle cop during the opening sequence of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark.

The book "No Coincidences, Only Miracles" by Bill Cable's ex-wife, Shirley Njos, mentions several occasions where Peterson and Cable were in contact with each other, even after Cable's marriage to Njos. 184.166.27.179 (talk) 04:20, 13 October 2020 (UTC)Waylon Jordan

One might ask even more questions after looking at the seemingly unsteady coverage of this topic. Does she disbelieve what she claims at any specific time (what how food is 'sourced' is a moral issue)? Does she have an unsteady object relation with moral ideations? There are some contemporary human beings who seem to claim or believe that flexitarianism is morally acceptable (although such a 'position' appears to condone depersonalization of nonhuman persons). Cover of Tom Waits Album Debate

For years there has been a debate as to whether it is or isn't Cassandra Peterson on the cover of Tom Waits' "Small Change." album. Peterson has always said she was unsure if that was her on the album cover.

In an October 2020 podcast with Bridget Marquardt, Cassandra Peterson admits it is NOT her on the album cover. Filmography??

Just watched an episode of her syndicated TV show and wanting to learn a bit more about Peterson read this article. It seems the filmography includes TV shows also. Would it be more appropriate to separate the TV from the film appearances? I ask due to the other articles I've read having the two listed separately. Cassandra Peterson's Claim to Having Been in the Movie "Diamonds Are Forever."

Cassandra Peterson has stated several times, including her new autobiography Yours Cruelly, Elvira, that she appeared in the James Bond movie Diamonds Are Forever. I believe this to be completely untrue. Cassandra specifies she plays one of the showgirls who accompanies the comedian "Shady Tree" during his act. I can assure you this is not the case. It's a brief scene, no more than :15 seconds long. The two showgirls appearing with the Shady Tree, referred to in the movie as his "acorns" were played by Pat Gill and Jennifer Castle. The parts were not credited in the movie. However, the James Bond website From Sweden With Love has since confirmed their identities. Both Gill and Castle were showgirls with the Las Vegas production of Vive Les Girls, a show that Cassandra Peterson claims to have been a part of.

"They came to Las Vagas to shoot, they picked our show to shoot a little scene on stage there with a comedian. They picked two show girls out of the chorus, I was to accompany this comedian on stage, and so I was one of the girls. Later I went to London and they used me as an extra again in another scene when I went over there I had lunch with Shawn Connery, Michael Kane, and Tony Curtis one day, it was so cool. The big film studio over in London…. I can't remember the name. They were showing the behind the scenes, you know in "Diamond’s are Forever" they land on the moon, They recreated the moon and all the craters out of mash potatoes, they took me in there and the smell was so bad." - Cassandra Peterson The staged moon landing scene was filmed in Nevada, not London, England as Cassandra claims. The "mashed potato" reference had nothing to do with the moon landing scene. That incident involved the use of mashed potatoes in order to simulate a mud bath during the opening scene of the movie. It's a well known piece of movie and Bond trivia that the crew did not realize potatoes would become rancid after being exposed to the hot studio lights. The result was an overwhelming odor that Sean Connery and the other actors struggled to cope with during filming.

Ultimately, none of this matters anyway. According to Cassandra via several interviews and her book, she lived in Las Vegas for 15 months. She says she moved there sometime around May 1969. If that's true, then she would have left Las Vegas and moved to Paris sometime around August or September 1970. The movie Diamonds are Forever didn't even begin filming until April 5, 1971. Convinced Cassandra Peterson is a Compulsive Liar

After years of studying Cassandra Peterson's life and career, combined with new information from her alleged autobiography "Yours Cruelly, Elvira," I'm thoroughly convinced the woman is a compulsive, or possibly even pathological liar.

According to Regain.us, the signs of a compulsive liar include:

• The lies they tell often paint them in a favorable and enviable light. For example, the compulsive liar may pretend to have traveled widely, be wealthy, or connect to rich and famous people.
• Telling lies that carry some element of truth wrapped up in fanciful embellishments.
• The lies begin small but balloon over time. Often, the lies become more elaborate when there is the threat of discovery – the compulsive liar creates an even more intricate tale to cover up or explain away any inconsistencies in the first lie.
• The lies normally are not externally motivated. Instead, pathological lying seems to satisfy some unconscious need of the liar. This includes lies that are intended to gain the compulsive liar’s sympathy or attention.

Regain.us adds a compulsive liar often steal other people's stories, tend to be quick thinkers, and often lack empathy.

Does this sound like anyone familiar? One of the reasons I became so fascinated with Cassandra's life involves the endless inconsistencies in her stories. They change drastically from one telling to the next, one interview to the next. An example: You'll find a thousand interviews where Cassandra describes her childhood incident resulting in her burn scars. In most cases, she explains this was caused by pulling a kettle of boiling water onto herself when she was a child. However, on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast "Inside of You," from May 2019, she states her injuries were the result of a fire. She says at 21:32 into the podcast, "I climbed up on the stove. I caught my dress on fire."

Another example: In her autobiography she writes, "Perhaps the biggest mistake I made in my twenties was posing nude for a husband-and-wife photography team, who bullshitted me into doing what they said was a 'test shoot' for Penthouse magazine. They guaranteed me it would never be seen anywhere publicly." She adds, "I never saw or heard from them again, and as far as I knew, that was the end of that - until 1981 when I became famous. Those photos, pubic hair and all, appeared in every sleazy men's magazine on the stand and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it."

This conflicts with proof the photos from that 1974 photo shoot were published as early as 1975, with some images appearing on the cover of the May 1975 issue of Modern Man, posing under the name Cassandra Lane, the June 1975 cover of Game magazine, the July 1975 cover and 9 page graphic layout in Cavalcade, and the October 1976 issue of Man's Pleasure.

She adds in her book, "Promising the photos would be tasteful and not show anything I didn't want to reveal, they managed to talked me in to getting completely naked,'so your underwear won't get in the shot.' Like the trusting moron I was, I did the shoot, signed the contract, and collected a small fortune." Read that again. Have you seen her nude photos from this September 1974 shoot? They are graphic, showing her privates in vivid detail. Seriously? She didn't realize her pubic region was being photographed? Type "Cassandra Peterson Nude" into any search engine and you'll see what I mean. She honestly didn't realize the graphic nature of the photos while they were being shot?

With that quote, she also implies this particular 1974 shoot was the only nude modeling she had done. What about the four shoots she did for Playgirl (that's Playgirl, not Playboy)? She did two separate sessions with her then-boyfriend Bill Cable, and two more sessions with model and gay porn actor Paul Barresi. She's seems to have forgotten about those other four sessions.

In her book she claims she was sexually assaulted by Wilt Chamberlain (page 140). Okay, let's pause. When a woman tells me she's been sexually assaulted, I believe her. When I first heard Cassandra's claim of being sexually assaulted by Wilt Chamberlain I became ill. I shook for four days. However, with all things with Cassandra, it wasn't long before I started saying to myself, "Something isn't right here." Listen to Cassandra tell this same story on Adam Corolla's podcast. At 37:50 into the podcast Cassandra says the attack happened "...when I was in my early twenties." When asked why she didn't report the crime, she explains, "...he [Wilt Chamberlain] died not long after that." Stop and think about this for a minute. Cassandra was born September 17, 1951. She says the attack happened while she was "...in my early twenties." Okay, so the attack must have happened around 1973 or 1974. She then says Wilt Chamberlain died shortly after the attack. Wilt Chamberlain didn't die until 1999. We're talking about a 26 or 27 year discrepancy, more than a quarter of a century.

A few more....

Cassandra Peterson has said on record hundreds of times she "dated" Elvis. One example would be her interview on "Cocktails With Stan". Then again, in some interviews, for example Oprah's "Where Are They Now," she says she only spent an evening and the next morning with him, during which time they shared at least some degree of romantic interaction. Then again, like in her book or on her appearance on the podcast "Lunatic Fringe," she states she simply met Elvis, and he gave her career advice, and that you "couldn't even call it a date." Personally, I don't believe she ever met Elvis. I'm pretty sure she is stealing another person's story, namely Pat Gill's, and making it her own. Pat Gill, who was also a dancer with Vive Les Girls (the same show Cassandra danced with in Las Vegas... supposedly) did have some kind of involvement with Elvis in June 1969, right about the same time Cassandra says she met him. How do I know? Check Getty Images. You'll find several photos of Pat Gill with Elvis in June 1969.

When it comes to Cassandra's exaggeration or outright lie about Elvis, one particular example comes to mind. On the podcast Nerdist, Cassandra discusses running into Lisa Marie Presley at a party. The interviewer asks her if she ever told Lisa Marie about her having dated her dad. Cassandra replies, "I didn't want to tell Lisa Marie I could be her mom." To my ear, that sounds like a very serious relationship. So, we go all the way from Cassandra and Elvis having such an intense relationship she "could be her mom" all the way down to "...you couldn't even call it a date." I must apologize, but for some reason I can no longer access the link to the Lunatic Fringe podcast, and can not cite the link.

I could go on for days. Seriously, this became so confusing I gave serious thought to seeking out counseling. Then again, it's my understanding that after listening to the stories of a compulsive liar one begins to question their own sanity. That's exactly what happened to me.

Let me say, I absolutely adore Cassandra. She's something of a hero to me. Catching her in her lies used to be fun. Regrettably, she's taken this way too far, and has chosen to drag others into her lies.
