New article, images, name edit

This comment is a continuation of a discussion begun under Casas Grandes.

All the photos I have can be seen at http://home.chattanooga.net/~jose/cgphotos.htm. Since I posted only links, not photos, I did not ask any permissions. I imagine most or all of the owners of these pictures would be glad to permit their use here. There are a couple of people who might have pictures whom I will speak with when I see them next. Note, the subject of perhaps the most charming picture, "yellow front building", has since been painted and remodeled and now looks like any other modern bureaucratic building.

The starter article here looks great. I would make just one point, on the name of the place. Locally, "Casas Grandes" refers to the modern pueblo and "Paquimé" to the ruins; they are not interchangeable. But among outsiders who are likely to be the main readers of these articles, for all I know they may be used interchangeably. I will just mention the local situation and let those more knowledgeable than myself do what they think best. Jm546 (talk) 22:16, 14 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok thanks Jm, no great rush for the photos but wld be great if you are able to track some down where the owners are prepared to release them for use under some explicit compatible license. When asking someone else if their photo could be uploaded to wiki, by following the image-use policies at WP:IUP and the procedure to document permissions at WP:PERMISSIONS, you can't go far wrong and will avoid any question marks about the licensing status.
As for the arch. site naming- sure, it would be fine to put a note re the local usage. In english-language archaeological literature, both Casas Grandes and Paquime are found in use for ruins. It may be that there's an increasing tendency to use Paquime, but I'd have to look into it more to gauge whether it's sufficient to supplant the spanish name.
