I just got a TV grab of the new logo of Teletoon. Should it be replaced with the old one? In my opinion, I think it should, but I just want to see what your opinions are. --XuperUber 16:33, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Looks very cheesy... literally. :) Both the old logo and this new one should be on the page. --FlyingPenguins 17:45, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Re: Old Shows

heya,

Blazing Dragons had a weird syndication 2-3(ish)(?) AM repeat run at morning time slot when the network originally aired.

I remember it, because I hated that show.

They also showed Wings of honnemaise/Dragon ball Z/ Macross Plus OVA/Patlabor (Movies 1 & 2) but I wasn't sure if we were listing movies or not.

If we are listing movies we should also include Ninja Scroll.69.156.205.22 06:29, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Relaunched?!?!

Well, today out of nowhere, Teletoon relaunched, completely new logo too :D This wikipage need a major upgrade, right now! ViperSnake151 13:05, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Animania

This article lists Animania as one of the shows on Teletoon. However, Animania is about an event in Sydney. Is the article perhaps referring to Animaniacs, or to a TV show which should be at an article such as Animania (TV show) or Animania (cartoon)? Confusing Manifestation 05:00, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I am the one who listed Animania. I remember that there was actually a show of the same name. I'm 100% positive. It was a program that aired in the night and consisted of many short animated films by the National Film Board of Canada. During the days when Teletoon was still fairly new, the station used to have some sort of program that featured all these NFB short films. I forgot the name to that one, but there was a newer program titled Animania that basically functioned the same way. It's difficult to find any information on these programs, but some long-time Teletoon viewers might also remember. - MW 74.12.151.234 06:46, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Splat

Wasn't Splat (a TV program about animation) the first live-action TV show on Teletoon?

I also question whether Scooby Doo was in fact the first live action movie. I seem to recall Beetlejuice airing a lot earlier than that. I did some net searches and can find an airdate of October 2003 for Beetlejuice, but the earliest I can find for Scooby Doo is September 2004. 74.112.71.56 09:25, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

TELETOON (Canada)Teletoon (Canada) — Current name violates WP:MOS-TM, Teletoon does not stand for anything and thus should not be all capitalized. WP says "Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment". I am also requesting other Teletoon articles be moved for the same reason. —Lrrr IV 22:45, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Discussion

Surely TÉLÉTOON (Canada)/Télétoon (Canada) should be redirected/merged, not moved. There's no need for two different articles just because of language variations if they're the same company. --DeLarge 12:23, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. If these articles do get moved, maybe you or Lrrr can suggest a merger on their pages. TJ Spyke 04:33, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

This article has been renamed from TELETOON (Canada) to Teletoon (Canada) as the result of a move request. --Stemonitis 16:29, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Just to add my 2 cents... this is just another example of how flawed Wikipedia really is. If its name is officially spelled with all CAPS then that's how it should be spelled in the article regardless. MusiMax 23:03, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:TELETOON Original.gif

Image:TELETOON Original.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Cable Channel

Whoever is changing the Cable channels to the "available on most cable systems, check local listings" message should stop. On Rogers Personal TV it's channel 227 East and channel 224 West. Go check for yourself if you have it. This goes for the rest of the canadian TV channels. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.171.102 (talk) 01:34, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

The established consensus standard for television network articles (as noted on WP:TVS is to indicate that channels are available on most cable systems and that channels vary, unless the station is only on a few systems, where listing them individually would not be unwieldy. Please do not change articles in conflict with that established consensus. --Mhking (talk) 01:51, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Current Program List

The list of the current programs in the article is incomplete. If you go to [Teletoon.com you will see the listing of the TV series broadcast. But there is a category Shows broadcast by Teletoon that I created. If a list is going to be created than it should be completed as best it can be. But it's not as complete as it could be. Mr. C.C. Question about adult content on Teletoon?

This has been on the main article for some time, but can anyone back up the story about Teletoon scaling back adult programming due to a programming mishap in preschool hours? I've assumed that it was accurate since it hasn't been disputed yet, but I'd really appreciate seeing some evidence of this. - Jbetteridge 06:30, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

I wouldn't know, but what I do remember, was when how cross some of my friend's parents were, channel surfing over the the Kagero + StoneGiant rape scene, during Teletoon's showing of Ninja scroll. Awfully brutal for their first year, in the process of eventually becoming a "kid friendly" network. It's based on a bit of hearsay,
(friends told me how cross their parents were after the incident, and how their parents knew other parents who called into the network to complain to no end. They did in fact , show Ninja scroll within the first couple of weeks of Rogers' MeTV line up)
but I can't remember of there being any incident of 'Adult rated' movies being shown before, or after 'watershed' like the article states. Most anime movies and their repeats started showing much later after that incident though. I have bags under my eyes from trying to record them all :(

Again, nothing beyond hearsay :/. Not as if though the company were willing to go out of their way to incriminate themselves either ;p. The Canoe article reads that in regards to anime they "didn't really know what they were doing". I don't think its worth exaggerating though.
Maybe it was one of their misplaced "Washershed" TV bumpers featuring a plasticine sketch scene of a john, with an "alien" street walker, who's tongue came in the shape of an alluring pink boot ;p (lol). Who knows. Wait and see

There used to be an adult cartoon short called Lolita or Lolita Lolita on Teletoon after 11 pm which contained cartoon nudity. It was played early in the morning, causing some controversy after a woman saw it when she was babysitting a toddler.

I remember that Lolita short. It was mostly used as filler in the early morning hours. They'd normally play it when there was 5-10 minutes left before the next show. It was basically just crude animation with a young girl in sexual situations with rather avant-garde plots. Shame they don't air any of this stuff anymore...I miss all the old good shows. As for the Ninja Scroll airings, when I first saw those my jaw dropped, hah. tyx (talk) 03:44, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Duckman?

I don't believe Duckman would be in this slot. I mean...its not a show for babies. Plus, concerning Baby Teletoon...I don't think Corus would want to have this channel compete with Treehouse TV, which is pretty much all kids programming all the time. Tenspeeder 08:31, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

The need for references

This article has been tagged for a long time as needing better referencing. There is a limit to the appropriate time before something with 'citation needed' is removed. I just removed the following, which has been tagged since 2007;

However, Teletoon had an incident during their first year when they accidentally broadcast adult content, including cartoon nudity, during a time normally devoted to preschoolers (thus outside of Watershed)[citation needed]. The backlash from the government and parental groups[citation needed] resulted in Teletoon cutting back on almost all programming aimed at teens and adults, alienating those viewers. Teletoon is trying to regain that demographic, starting with the creation of the time block The Detour on Teletoon. Its newest programming block, presenting shows for adults and teenagers. The Detour on Teletoon includes: 12 oz. Mouse, Angry Kid, Bromwell High, Squidbillies, Stroker and Hoop, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Tripping the Rift, The Venture Bros., Robot Chicken, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Rick & Steve: The Happiest Gay Couple in All the World, American Dad!, and Futurama.

If someone can add it back with references, that will be great.

Well-referenced articles are much less prone to vandalism, because it is so much easier to identify 'bad' edits.  Chzz  ►  18:55, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Past programs

Hey, I'm just a random person who happened to drop by and decided to add some programs to the list of former Teletoon programs. I still remember how excited I was the first day it aired, and how there was a countdown timer on the channel before any real programming occurred, and how I had to go to school... I rushed to the channel when I arrived back; Santo Bugito was on at 3 PM or so. There's been a lot of changes with the channel from then until now. But I have a good handle on many of its early programming, and I've added quite a bit to the list, if you don't mind.

  • Animania
  • Blaster's Universe
  • Dog City
  • Mega Babies
  • Pippi Longstocking
  • Santo Bugito
  • Tales from the Cryptkeeper
  • The Addams Family
  • The Magic School Bus
  • The Tick
  • Wacky Races
  • X-Men

More shows that come off the top of my head that I will add:

  • Archie's Weird Mysteries
  • Cow and Chicken
  • I Am Weasel
  • Rescue Heroes
  • Savage Dragon
  • Sonic Underground
  • The Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries

There will be even more to come shortly.

EDIT: Even though Stickin' Around is listed as once showing on the English Teletoon, this is not true. From what I've seen, the only English-speaking Canadian channel that has ever showed it is YTV. On the program's page, it is noted as once being on the French Teletoon. I can't confirm if this is true, since I've never had access to that channel, but I believe that it is. So I'll go ahead and delete Stickin' Around from the list of past programs for Teletoon (English), but just to be safe, I won't touch the French page.

EDIT 2: Added plenty more to "Past programs"; deleting Clone High, Mission Hill, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The Oblongs, and Venture Brothers from "Programs currently airing on The Detour" and adding them to "Past programs," in accordance to Teletoon's show list on its Web site.

Teletoon Logo for Cinematic Movies

In This Logo, Inside a Movie Theater/Cinema, a Full house of All of the Teletoon Characters from all of Teletoon series makes a cameo appearance, playing kites, yo-yos, paddle balls, paper planes, making mischief, sleeping, crying, laughing, giggling, stealing popcorns & drinks, pranks, telling jokes and etc. and then fades into black and all you can see are the whites of the eyes, some eyes were blinking and we see a bunch of watercolor lines in the shape of the New Teletoon logo squiggle around. Then, the lines come closer together until they "smash" into each other to form a solid New Teletoon logo. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.44.78.26 (talk) 09:46, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Capitalization of "Teletoon original productions"

Teletoon itself doesn't capitalize "original productions" in its press releases (see: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], ), so why should Wikipedia? I can find no evidence that this is a registered trademark, and Teletoon doesn't treat it as one in its official communications. Ground Zero | t 03:42, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

It does indeed seem to be inconsistent in press releases - see: [6], [7], [8], [9], [10] It's clearly capitalized in show credits, though, so that's how it should be in the article. Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 05:30, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Why are the show's credits authoritative? Show credits are stylized promotional content. Teletoon does not treat the phrase as a trademark in official communications. Wikipedia follows standard English capitalization instead of corporate preferences:

"When deciding how to format a trademark, editors should choose among styles already in use (not invent new ones) and choose the style that most closely resembles standard English, regardless of the preference of the trademark owner." - WP:TRADEMARK

Ground Zero | t 18:08, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

You seem to be raising two separate issues here. The first one is whether Teletoon treats it as a trademark - but that is irrelevant to the discussion, given WP:TRADEMARK: "This guideline (in its entirety) applies to all trademarks, all service marks, all business names, and all other names of business entities." The second one is whether, given that this now clearly falls under WP:TRADEMARK, it should be capitalized. Again, WP:TRADEMARK clearly resolves the issue: "Capitalize trademarks, as with proper names."
As for the sentence you quoted: it seems to contradict much of the rest of the guideline, so it should probably be rephrased if not deleted altogether. Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 18:28, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

You are begging the question. You have not supported your premise that this is a trademark. If Teletoon doesn't treat it as a trademark, there is no reason for Wikipedia to do so, and standard English capitalization should apply. If you think that WP:TRADEMARK should be changed, you can propose changes on its talk page. Proposing changes to the Manual of Style here won't get you anywhere. Ground Zero | t 19:29, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

The first sentence I quoted clearly states that it isn't necessary for it to actually be a trademark. That's the point I was making. The fact that another sentence in the lead of the guideline contradicts this is a problem, but as I also pointed out, that's not the only part of the guideline it contradicts. Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 19:41, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Let me re-phrase it then: why should Wikipedia capitalize this ordinary English pahrase as if it were a trademark, service mark, business name, or name of a business entity, when Teletoon treats it as an (non-capitalized) ordinary English phrase in its official corporate communications? Where there is a conflict between different parts of the manual, we should defer to the spirit of WP:TRADEMARK, as outlined in the opening paragraph, i.e., "editors should choose among styles already in use (not invent new ones) and choose the style that most closely resembles standard English." Teletoon capitalizes the phrase on TV, and doesn't in press releases or on its website, so we should choose the style that most closely resembles standrad English. Ground Zero | t 20:09, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
For purposes of establishing whether it is used as the name of a business entity, the show credits I previously mentioned are in fact authoritative, even if they don't establish whether it is a trademark and/or capitalized. Put simply: since a logo exists, it's the name of a business entity. Dogmaticeclectic (talk) 20:14, 16 November 2012 (UTC)

Revert

I have reverted this edit, which was badly formatted and unreferenced. There were grammatical errors, and it was in reference to something that happened 15 years ago. It was just random information that had no place in the article. I'm not cleaning it up. Ground Zero | t 00:40, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Looking at this edit again, there are some non-sensical phrases that suggest that this is vandalism, not constructive editing: "Several more bumpers using CGI animation with some made by guru animation" and "The Adult Block animation was made by cuppa coffee." What does this mean? If Dogmaticeclecticbelieves this should stay, then he/she should find a reference to a reliable source, and clean up the grammatical, capitalization and formatting errors, rather than leaving this mess to junk up an otherwise acceptable article. I think this edit sullies the entire article. Ground Zero | t 00:50, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Came across this 2014 upload of them, brought back memories. Wondering if it would be worth putting in the external links section since we mention the bumpers in the channel history. Stylized note

User:DangerousJXD removed the note about the channel's name being stylized. I think it should be restored, because this isn't just about the logo: it seems that the channel is referred to in all caps in every single press release I can recall. Leaving this information out creates the impression that the Wikipedia title (forced upon us by policy) is the usual one, which is clearly not the case. Mdrnpndr (talk) 20:12, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

History

I think this article's history section should be rewritten. Both YTV and Family Channel have a convoluted line of ownership, yet they managed to explain that within the overall segment. I'm saying this because I believe this article should mention the multiple Teletoon spinoff services. In April 2000, "Teletoon Canada Inc." applied for six separate digital cable channels. They were approved in November, but of that initial batch, only Teletoon Retro/Télétoon Rétro launched. The licenses to the others expired in 2004. On May 19, 2011, "Teletoon Canada Inc." applied for "Teletoon Kapow!" This was eventually approved and used to launch Cartoon Network Canada. The latter eventually assumed Teletoon Retro's CRTC license following that channel's closure.Damnedfan1234 (talk) 10:03, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

You may want to read Teletoon Retro#History, where it is explained that the channel that eventually launched was under a brand new license not from that group. Beyond that, feel free to add what you deem necessary, as long as it is in fact correct and is reliably sourced. Modernponderer (talk) 20:50, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Regarding the rebranding to Cartoon Network Canada

I understand that it is in a sense rebranding but the thing is Cartoon Network Canada already exists and its channel space will be taken over by Boomerang Canada. So are you really going to structure this over channel space? GalaxyFighter55 (talk) 01:34, 25 February 2023 (UTC)

I invite @MrSchimpf: and @ViperSnake151: to join this discussion. Please elaborate on why we should be doing it this way for already existing articles based on WP tags, trust-worthy citations, and / or past occurrences of such a rebranding scheme happening in the past where an existing network was basically moved to another network and how the editors treated it. I believe it is the least we can do here to close any further arguments regarding the matter.--GalaxyFighter55 (talk) 01:39, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
We're not really overstructuring: once the rebranding happens, Cartoon Network will get moved to Boomerang (Canadian TV channel), and then we would move Teletoon's existing article to Cartoon Network (Canadian TV channel), and use hatnotes (i.e. "For the channel that was branded as Cartoon Network prior to March 2023, see Boomerang (Canadian TV channel)") to direct people to the relevant article.
When rebrandings happen, it's a case by case basis based on how easily the transition can be covered. M3 to Gusto was a rather complicated situation since Bell only bought rights to the branding, and moved it to the M3 license. But we reached a consensus for our purposes that it'd be less astonishing to treat CTV Life Channel as a continuation of the original Category B-licensed Gusto, and declare M3 (as in the service that formerly operated under that license/channel space) to be a defunct channel (which from the perspective of the viewer, is factually correct), but with the acknowledgement that it was now operating under a completely different license afterward. We did something similar when Cartoon Network got moved to the Teletoon Retro license and allotments. ViperSnake151  Talk  02:01, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
@ViperSnake151: Valid point, I was originally under the impression myself that we were treating this as a shutdown of Teletoon the day of announcement, but I can see your case for such reasoning here now.--GalaxyFighter55 (talk) 02:33, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
Agreed with ViperSnake; it's merely a rebranding of each channel, and there's not so much in the current CNC article that does need to be transitioned to what is now the Teletoon article. This is just a common rebranding of each channel with the appropriate moves, and this is how I've handled channel moves in the past (notwithstanding a few situations where IPs sowed chaos, and then the ShopNBC>ShopHQ move where an odd editor didn't believe it had rebranded because there were few sources about it). This definitely resembles the Sprout>Universal Kids move and it was deemed better just to keep the entire article intact rather than keep the Sprout era in its own article.
I also continue to stand by my reversion of the closed parameter in each infobox; it's a field only to be used when a network ceases transmission entirely, and both networks will remain active, and because we have a former name parameter these IPs somehow forget exists, nor do we date each network's existence in the launch/closed fields per basic WP:ACCESS standards. Then we need a temp page so one doesn't immediately overwrite the other.

No we don't. It's the same channels just with different names. In fact a few editors have already tried to jump the gun. ViperSnake151  Talk  02:10, 12 March 2023 (UTC)
