Why No Personal Data on Congresswoman?

Why is there no personal information on the congresswoman such as her childhood, her maiden name, was she born into a family? Where did she go to school? What did she study? This part seems very undeveloped... Stevenmitchell (talk) 18:35, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Husband's Death

I don't like editing, but here's a heads up on her husband's unfortunate fatal hiking accident: http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/0909/Rep_Maloneys_husband_dies_in_Tibet_.html

NPOV

The existing article is very well-cited, but also rather one-sided. Both in tone and in selection of topics, it tends to present a very positive view of the subject. A more balanced article would include poor scorecards as well as positive ones, address her failings as well as her successes, and include a balanced representation of critics. Until that happens, I've tagged the article with the {{Neutrality}} tag; please don't remove the tag until the article has been updated appropriately. Thanks, Vectro (talk) 00:16, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

It seems you envision that the tag will remain indefinitely until someone does work that you think ought to be done. That's not a proper use of the tag. If there's specific information that meets your suggestions, feel free to do the work yourself and add it with appropriate citations. Alternatively, you can post proposed language here for comment before adding it.
I'll wait a little while to see if any specifics are forthcoming before I remove the tag, but leaving it there indefinitely is unacceptable. In fact, don't be surprised if someone else shows less restraint and removes it immediately, given that there's no specific dispute presented in support of the neutrality challenge. JamesMLane t c 17:42, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
James, I strenuously disagree. If you think there is a consensus that the article as it stands is adequately neutral, then the tag could be removed on that basis, but the mere fact that a problem is not being addressed immediately does not mean that it does not exist. To quote Wikipedia:Tagging pages for problems, "Identification of problems in articles is an important task in the creation of a reliable encyclopedia". I don't really have the expertise to fix this article, but that doesn't mean I can't see that it has problems. The tag should stay until the article satisfies Wikipedia's neutrality guidelines. If you want to call that demanding that "someone does work that you think ought to be done", then so be it -- the idea that this work should be done is supported by Wikipedia policy. You might also want to have a look at Wikipedia:Responsible tagging. Cheers, Vectro (talk) 03:46, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
I had a look at Wikipedia:Responsible tagging, which is one person's essay and has no standing as a Wikipedia policy or guideline. Even in that essay, however, one finds this discussion of the use of the NPOV tag: "The talk page should explain, to those unfamiliar with any of the sides in the argument, what the sides are and try to point to some neutral language that all sides might agree on. The essay does not approve the comparatively unconstructive practice of saying that the article isn't neutral without suggesting any language; that kind of approach is approved, in the essay, only for problems like unreliable sourcing.
Your other reference, Wikipedia:Tagging pages for problems, is also just an essay. It includes a "See also" link to a third essay, Wikipedia:NPOV dispute, which is more specific about this type of tag, and which contains this passage:

Everyone can agree that marking an article as having an NPOV dispute is a temporary measure, and should be followed up by actual contributions to the article in order to put it in such a state that people agree that it is neutral.

This relates to the point I made above -- that you seem to envision that the tag will remain indefinitely, because you've made no specific suggestion for language to be added to the article or how existing text might be changed.
Instead of rummaging through Wikipedia to find essays that you can read as supporting your position, why don't you just do some actual research and develop the type of additional material you think the article needs? JamesMLane t c 18:11, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
James: I didn't mean to give the impression that I had cited any Wikipedia policy on this. As far as I'm aware, there is none. It's my opinion that articles which suffer in some particular way should be tagged until they are corrected, and that adding such tags is a useful and valid form of collaboration. If you disagree, feel free to remove the tag. I don't have a strong investment in Wikipedia, and I certainly don't have the time, inclination, or expertise needed to research Ms. Maloney's detractors at present. All the best, Vectro (talk) 23:01, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
I think that some tags, like "Cleanup", can reasonably be left in place indefinitely, but POV isn't one of them. My understanding is that there should be a more specific discussion on the talk page to justify maintaining the tag. I'll remove it but without objection to its being renewed if a specific dispute develops. JamesMLane t c 03:37, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

please remove word

I object to the use of the word "spurious" to describe the claim that the presence of thimerosal and aluminum in vaccines causes autism. Someone is using a political biography to editorialize about this issue of the medical safety of vaccination using vaccines that have not been purified of these components. No information is given to back up the use of this adjective. My guess is that the person who added this to the article has not researched the subject. I do believe studies have been to done that prove that the claim is NOT spurious, but that is not my point. Please do not use biographies to editorialize on tangential issues. If you would like to so editorialize, maybe start a different article on that topic. Thanks.LRA1958 (talk) 09:21, 3 July 2017 (UTC)
