Thanks for this opportunity to discuss on an issue we ourselves had some doubts from the beginning. When Prof. Herrera retired in October 2022, some people in his former lab thought that it was time to contribute a biographical piece to Wikipedia (against Herrera's own inclination). Since Prof. Herrera is neither professionally nor administratively linked to the people in his former lab anymore, the opinion prevailed that there was not current COI in writing and submitting this piece. The subject appears notable under WP:PROF and probably WP:AUTHOR. I've removed some of the more frank promotion and trivia, however it will need a subject expert to comb through the claims that are sourced to external sources and verify them, and perhaps tone down some of the language appropriately. I note the article was properly published via Articles for creation; pinging @Aviram7: who accepted it, to enquire how thoroughly they checked that the sources support the claims.
