Definition

The constituency is already listed on the page. All you seem to have done is list areas that are part of that constituency. You haven't shown evidence that the term 'Cardiff North' has any relevance outside of electoral geography. Pondle (talk) 22:09, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

Road signs of this type just provide vague geographic information to road users. I can't see any evidence that, apart from the electoral constituencies, there's any official definition or use of the phrase 'Cardiff North'. Pondle (talk) 23:06, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

I am from Cardiff and people definitely still refer to Cardiff North when talking about the area, there should be a Wikipedia page for this. Obviously it is hard to evidence this, but the fact that it is still used on road signs should be enough to maintain its relevance on Wikipedia.- (EmRob07)

Sources

92.19.11.27 (talk · contribs) suggests that we don't need sources to verify which districts of Cardiff are in the north of the city, an area which is not officially defined geographically, and continues to remove them e.g. [2]. They suggest that, as the sources come from the Liberal Democrat website, there is some sort of polictial implication, although the source could easily be from the Conservative or Labour website. I have pointed the user to WP:VERIFY but this seems to have been ignored. Welshleprechaun 12:54, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

If we did that, then a BNP, Green Party, Plaid Cymru or SNP supporter etc. could demand that a source for their political party be added. The revision history of the IP suggests that their edit to this page is politically motivated rather than for neutrality. Welshleprechaun 15:56, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Disclaimers: I am responding to a third opinion request made at WP:3O. I have made no previous edits on Cardiff North (geographical area) and have no known association with the editors involved in this discussion. The third opinion process (FAQ) is informal and I have no special powers or authority apart from being a fresh pair of eyes. Third opinions are not tiebreakers and should not be "counted" in determining whether or not consensus has been reached. My personal standards for issuing third opinions can be viewed here.

Opinion: This opinion relates to the sources restored in this diff. Assertions in Wikipedia, and especially ones which are ambiguous or doubtful, must be sourced with a reliable source, so I fully agree that the assertion that the named areas are part of the "ambiguously defined" Cardiff North area (as well as, indeed, the assertions that "they generally share the postcodes CF14, CF15 and CF24, and the telephone code 029" and that areas "generally considered to be in North Cardiff are east of the River Taff") not only can be, but must be, sourced. However, none of the sources given in the diff are allowable sources. The first four of them are organizations located in the named individual areas who imply that they are in Cardiff North by using "Cardiff North" in their names; the fifth isn't even that, it says that something is in "north Cardiff" (capitalization as in original) which clearly is not even an attempt to refer to a particular geographical area. To say that these five sources show that the specific areas named are in an area which is widely known as or generally accepted to be called "Cardiff North" or (note capitalization) "North Cardiff" is prohibited original research. So while it is my opinion that sources are required, the ones which are being offered are unusable and must be removed.A warning to both editors: What's going on here is clearly an edit war and I must warn you both that you stand a risk of having this page protected and/or being blocked from editing if it continues. The three revert rule says, "Remember that an administrator may still act whenever they believe a user's behavior constitutes edit warring, and any user may report edit-warring, even if the three-revert rule has not been breached. The rule is not an entitlement to revert a page a specific number of times." Decide it by discussion, do a RFC, take it to MedCab, or use some other form of dispute resolution, but stop reverting. Bearing in mind this is a politically undefined area, much like North London, could you suggest reputable sources? I have found one from the NHS listing dentists in North Cardiff which lists the areas it defines as North Cardiff. Welshleprechaun 18:16, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

post codes

very minor point but when I was a lad in Llandaff North our post code began CF4 - not CF24 EdwardLane (talk) 14:19, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Many postcodes in the city changed, roughly 10 years ago I'd say. Probably to free up postcodes due to city expansion in the same way that the dialing code changed from 01222 to 029. As far as I know, CF1, CF2 and CF4 don't exist anymore. CF1, for example, which covers the city centre is now CF10, CF13, CF14 etc. Welshleprechaun 16:27, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
