The term carbon neutral redirects here, but it really should have its own article describing what carbon neutrality is, or in the very least redirect to carbon offset. It would be extremely confusing for anyone trying to find out what carbon neutrality is. And for that matter, there needs to be a carbon negative article. (Carbon negative would, I imagine, be defined as the long term or permanent sequestering of carbon produced from the emissions of carbon neutral or nearly carbon neutral energy sources. The sequestering of flue gases obtained by burning carbon neutral biomass is one such example. The point is the net carbon release is negative, not just neutral.)
Fixed redirect. As for carbon negative. I've never heard of the term, and if it's not a normally used term, I don't think we should include it in wikipedia either.Jens Nielsen 07:26, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
You're right that carbon negative is not yet a common term. It barely shows up in a Google search and hasn't appeared in Wikipedia yet (but I guess it has now!), so its inclusion would likely be original research. Still, I believe it's only a matter of time before the term is used more frequently, and at some point the increased use should justify an inclusion. As for what it is, my estimation at a definition above is only one possible form of carbon negativity. Other solutions appear to have more to due with carbon sequestration in agriculture than the sequestering of biofuel/biomass emissions.
