Caravan was an independent production company that had a distribution deal with Disney before Joe Roth (one of Caravan's parters) was hired as head of Disney studio. The other head of Caravan, Charles Birnbaum, went on to start Spyglass Pictures, another independent production company which at the time of its creation was based at Disney but is now at another studio. So, in other words, the article on the main page is wrong.
