On 12 October 2022, it was proposed that this article be moved to Caravan (English band). The result of the discussion was no consensus. |
I may get round to seriously expanding this article in time
editJust because it's in such a poor state.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 18:37, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Phew. That's a relief. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:44, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
Expanding this article
editI would like to make changes to this article, in particular:
1) expand the discography by converting to a table with columns for album name, year, band members/credits as a minimum (for me, knowing who played on what album - for any band - is a must.
2) Split the history into different 'eras' and expand each
If anyone has any suggestions or objections, please let me know. Paulmarkj (talk) 16:26, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Richard Coughlan
editIs Richard Coughlan still officially a member of the band? This article lists him as a current member, but his own article says they have reformed "with a replacement drummer". The band's official website [1] says only that "live plans have been shelved due to Richard Coughlan's ill health". They are playing live dates at the moment which I assume are without him. I think the article needs to reflect his current status within the band. --Viennese Waltz 14:05, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
An overhaul
editWell, several editors have said "we really should improve this article", so I've done it. The main thing I think stops it from being a good article at present are verifying the timelines of who played what and when, which aren't completely cited in the main text. If I can find a good source that logs everything (I've only got bits and bobs), then I can put it up for a GA review. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:35, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
Requested move 12 October 2022
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: no consensus. No resolution in sight for the main issue over whether the WP:INCDAB is warranted. (closed by non-admin page mover) — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 05:51, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
Caravan (band) → Caravan (English band) – Caravan (Thai band). In ictu oculi (talk) 19:03, 12 October 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Wikiexplorationandhelping (talk) 01:11, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose: on average the English band gets 32 times more hits than the Thai band. YorkshireExpat (talk) 20:00, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- Weak support 32x is dubious for a PDAB. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:35, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- What would not be dubious? YorkshireExpat (talk) 21:38, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- We only do PDABs for Oasis Michael Jackson and a few other mega exceptions to normal en.wp rules - we don't do it habitually. It would need to be 1000x. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:20, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- @In ictu oculi WP:PDABLIST disagrees I think. YorkshireExpat (talk) 07:55, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- @YorkshireExpat: WP:PDABLIST does not say there has been a consensus about each case. It is just a list of what exists (that has been noticed). The PDAB aspect of some of the titles listed there has never been discussed. — BarrelProof (talk) 11:45, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- The point is YorkshireExpat that to buck the normal rules requires an active fanbase. Caravan is an English band, so it would need a fanbase to oppose the Englishness being mentioned. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:55, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

- Support per nomination and Crouch, Swale. Caravan (band) is incomplete disambiguation and should redirect to the Caravan#Music disambiguation page. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 01:17, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Support, although I would prefer Caravan (British band). 162 etc. (talk) 21:49, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per overwhelming WP:PRIMARYUSAGE. With well over 97% of all pageviews in a WP:ONEOTHER situation, this article easily meets the enhanced criteria of WP:INCDAB. And with a hatnote in place, a move would not benefit any reader. Station1 (talk) 09:02, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: Seems like both sides have good arguments, I shall relist for more consensus. Wikiexplorationandhelping (talk) 01:11, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- Strong support We should consider the wider world outside of music when thinking of disambiguators. The basic topic of Caravan (travellers) is a band, but not a musical one. The current title sbould point to the disambiguation page without section link refinement -- 65.92.244.114 (talk) 10:05, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Please see WP:BANDDAB. YorkshireExpat (talk) 17:39, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- That only applies when all the articles being disambiguated are musical articles. That is not the case here, where there is another topic that is not music. That therefore fails WP:AT and does not carry enough WP:PRECISION to be used as an article title. The band of travellers is a highly relevant topic to choose (the most basic choice, between the band of travellers and the automobile) -- 65.92.244.114 (talk) 03:13, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- So are you suggesting something other than (English band) as the dab term? YorkshireExpat (talk) 08:50, 26 October 2022 (UTC)

Gallery
editIs a gallery "only for Commons"? Not sure what that means. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:43, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- No, as per WP:GALLERY, there are places where an organized group, such as this personnel gallery, are perfectly acceptable - hence I have reinstated it - Arjayay (talk) 10:24, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
