Prosumer

edit

I won't call the EOS 300D a "prosumer" DSLR, since looking at Canon's marketing strategy it is clear the its DSLR family is divided into 3 lines:

  • Professional series such as the EOS 1D Mk II and the EOS 1Ds Mk II, denoted by their single-digit model number;
  • Prosumer series such as the EOS 20D and the EOS 10D, denoted by their double-digit model number; and
  • Consumer series such as the EOS 300D and the EOS 350D, denoted by their triple-digit model number, and possibly a future quaduple-digit model number series just like its film SLR cousins. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Melvin Pao (talkcontribs) 12:47, 10 June 2005‎

Metering modes

edit

Right now the infobox says the 300D has spot metering. It doesn't. Only the hacked version (source?) has unlocked spot metering, if I recall correctly. So should it be included in the infobox? I can't decide. Any thoughts? --Thomas Ploeger 21:30, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I interpret the article's info box as giving the same information as official specs, and as such, shouldn't mention spot metering. It would be similar to CPU chips that enthusiasts have managed to overclock; a chip sold as a 3GHz chip is still a 3GHz chip, despite it being capable of being pushed higher. -- Tomlouie | talk 20:28, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

How do I narrow down What links here so that it gives me a list of images in Wikipedia shot with a Digital Rebel or 300D? ShutterBugTrekker 22:06, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

History Section

edit

The history section just duplicates some of the information in Canon DSLR cameras. Further, the section has nothing to do with the history of the 300D, but rather it lists the progression of Canon's mid-range DSLR family. As such, I am going to delete it on the basis of redundancy. 68.230.115.87 (talk) 04:38, 19 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

You are right, this doesn't belong here. Rror (talk) 13:11, 19 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

'See Also' Section

edit

Consider adding 'Nikon Camera Timeline' to the 'See Also' section or creating a template named something like 'Other Camera Vendor Timelines'. Nikon a major competitor to Canon and many who view this page may want to compare with Nikon's timeline. Either way it is still relevant information.

Battery model errata

edit

The battery model for the Canon EOS300D camera is wrongly listed as BP-511 in many places, including the official user manual from Canon (see here). This includes this wiki page (until recently corrected) and (at least) many review sites.

I personally own a Canon EOS300D camera. The original battery it came with is clearly marked NB-2LH.

I also own a Canon DV camera model MV730i which works with the BP-511 battery. So yes, I have both kinds of devices and both types of batteries. And I can tell for certain that they are very different.

BP-2LH battery form factor

edit

NB-2LH form factor

Almost rectangular with 2 rounded edges.
LxWxH: 45x33x15mm
2S1P LiIon 7.4V 700mAh
Has 3 electrical contacts.

BP-508/511/512/514/522/

edit

BP-511 form factor

Rectangular with 2 slanted/rounded edges.
LxWxH: 55x37x40mm (for BP-522, only height differs between submodels)
2S1P LiIon 7.4V (for BP-508/511/512/514)
2S2P LiIon 7.4V 2200mAh (for BP-522)
2S3P LiIon 7.4V 4500mAh (for BP-535)

Internal build: standard industrial grade LiIon cylindrical cells and additional circuitry (probably for cell balancing).

I dragged out my old EOS 300D. It's original battery says BP-511 on the label. The replacement battery I bought for it says BP-511A on its label. They both look like the BP-522 pic above. I checked on the side of the box that the camera came in (EOS-300D KIT) and it also says BP-511 in the list of included parts. Since the rest of the world agrees with what I see in front of my own eyes and the camera forums have not pointed out what would be a glaring and obvious error, I think you have made a mistake somewhere.  Stepho  talk  13:19, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
I did a bit more searching and found that the NB-2LH is listed for the EOS 350D. See http://www.georges.com.au/index.php/camera-batteries-chargers/canon-camera-batteries.html Perhaps this is where you made your mistake.  Stepho  talk  13:30, 29 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
