Border crossing

I question the statement that one can travel from Italy to Campione via the lake without entering Swiss territory. There are border patrols on boats in the lake which can and do stop travelers. Hence I've added a request for authority.--Fitzaubrey 05:41, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

No it is wrong. These water are not international waters. As you can see in the maps, usually the boundary are set in the middle of the lakes (and rivers), also for some of bigger lakes. I think that there is an agreement, that you don't need to go to boundary control if you go from/to Campione to/from other Italian ports in this region of lake. (This agreement is like the standard agreement on international flight. (Anyway there is no control on lake, as no control in the normal/small roads (but some random rare controls). Better map?

Does somebody have a better map? The current one is confusing, and does not really demonstrate that Campione is surrounded by Switzerland. Campione is bordered on the eastern side by blank space on the map, and there is no indication of the Swiss-Italian border 1 km away. After looking at other maps, I still don't understand the significance of the white areas which form the "boundary" of this map, nor the white holes inside Ticino. Mtford 20:40, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Questionable sentence (currency and customs)

From the opening section: "Before the conversion to the Euro, the city used the Swiss franc, and prior to the opening of borders between EU countries, it benefited from special customs arrangements that allowed Italian citizens to cross Swiss territory."

• What currency does it use now (after the conversion to the Euro), that is not explained? I suggest that in practice, whether the official currency was/is the Lira, Euro or Frank, most business take both as in most Swiss border areas.

• Why would the opening of intra-EU borders affect any transit arrangements for italian citizens between Campione and the rest of Italy, Switzerland is not in the EU? Are there any transit arrangements currently? As Switzerland is about to implement Schengen, and has gradually been running down checks on land borders for years, passport controls for EU citizens are not a problem. But as Switzerland is non-EU there is still customs, so presumably transporting something above the customs limits between Campione and the rest of Italy requires customs transit documents, same as transporting it between EU-members Germany and Italy via Switzerland?

enclave or exclave

Campione d'Italia is considered here as an enclave but if you go to Italy page in the first paragraph its mensioned exclave !! & by going to Enclave and exclave page, i think Campione d'Italia should be exclave. No contradiction: A territory can be both an enclave (to its surrounding country) and an exclave (to its honeland), and so Campione d'Italia is an enclave of Switzerland and an exclave of Italy. 87.68.157.203 (talk) 01:11, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Province and Region

The article states that Campione d'Italia will be also part of the Province of Verbanio-Cusio-Ossiola (and therefore of Region Piedmont) starting from 2013, but there are no news in Italian or Swiss press about this change, and no source is cited. Small spelling and grammar errors
